Apart from outlay whats the verdict on Milwaukee. Tools and battery lifespan before useless?

I had a Milwaukee for 10+ years and to be honest it was amazing, took some serious abuse (mostly fencing so outside all the time)

BUT I replaced it with a makita cos there were far more aftermarket batteries etc for the more common drills than the Milwaukee. If that's not a big issue for you then you won't go far wrong with one.

Thanks Bob. Im still using a brace and bit that was my Grandads. The battery has never been replaced yet. I would rather pay twice the price for a good one than pay half the price for 2 in the same time. Im just waiting until I get a job that really needs it. Meanwhile value and spec get better.

Lets face it most of the big brand cordless drills are pretty good these days. Makita, Dewalt, Metabo, Milwaukee and probably Bosch. It's more a case of choosing one with the power you need and battery type/Ah. Look at the cost of replacement batteries as these tend to the weakest link long term.

When I finally stopped using the Milwaukee I stripped it down to see how much wear there was internally. The gearbox looked brand new, hardly any discernable wear.

Only reason it was scrapped was a combination of motor pretty tired, down to last battery so needed to buy a new one and the chuck needed replacing. Just wasn't worth doing all these at the same time, cheaper to replace with a makita.
