no mate it always coiled up in my kit bag

hundreds of possibilities but is there any chance it got shut in a car door or boot ? making a bend in the wire and forming a weak spot ? im just trying think of obvious things thats likely to have weakened it

 

I think the AGE may have been a factor.

I guess its possibly been caught betwene two bits of timber at some point thus causing a week spot maybe ?

 

my only question is surely when carrying out visual inspections you would have seen signs of rust that the point the wire leaves the textile outer sheeth ? i may be wron but in your first set of pics it does appear that there is some rust on the wire core .

For what its worth I don't feel that the Lanyard has been abused.

If it had been used for Towing or Lifting,the Thimble inside the Eye would be deformed.

 

I don't blame the poster for using old Kit.Who here has imagined this kind of thing happening to Steel that you can't see inside of somthing you can't get to without destroying?

 

Wire Rope can and usually does last for years.Maybe now they use Galvanised or Stainless Steel in Lanyards?

Has your missus got the hump with you in a big way? Has she got a hacksaw in the draw with the knives and forks and has she been popping out in the middle of the night for a bit of sawing. ????'
