Hi I've got a big tree in my garden,
How much?
I've been quoted £100 by two non professionals.
As a professional can you do it for less?
Click.

And that is without saying what he wants done with it .

Not a one liner, but had text - how much for a 30ft tree?

me - what type of tree and what would you like done to it?

red berries kind of tree, taken down

me - sounds like rowan or holly, depends on access, distance to drag etc

access is good

Me - Id better come and have a look

access was not good, squeezed between shed and fence but easy couple of hours - was a rowan.

quoted but can’t do it for 4 weeks

other quote was double mine with 30% off for cash if we do it today (caravan club I guessed)

they waited and we did it 3 weeks later ?

I did a bit of research Les, and it seems that the closest is “ne pas être un poulet de l’année”  which means (I think) not a first year/this years chicken.

I quite enjoy finding the equivalent sayings in French, it reveals the similarities in the human experience.

Not to be the chicken of the year?

Could be!

Try translating “you can’t make a silk purse out of a sow’s ear” to French and watch the look of utter bewilderment in the eyes.

You can imagine their thought processes “I thought we were talking about trees, now this lunatic has started on about pigs ears and whatnot,  the man is deranged!”

Ha ha, yes its quite interesting talking with our neighbour about this sort of thing, we usually conclude as follows:

1. It's good to work in your garden and boire une petite coup

2. Wine is far too expensive

3. Most politicians need to visit the guillotine

4. What is the best percentage to get your Eau de Vie distilled to, 58 or 60?

And so on...
