Drop beer & bread,& try to eat less in the evening, also cut out junk snacks & fatty foods like cheese, drink more water & no fizzy soft drinks, eat more fruit & salads.

It's tough to start with, but after a week or so you wont miss the bad stuff.

If you feel a bit peckish after dinner in the evening,go for a bit of vigorous excercise, say four sets of ten situps & pressups.

I've packed up the booze from 1st of September till Christmas Eve as part of (an admittedly drunken) bet. Not really changed my diet that much but lost a stone. Might be worth looking at Dave. I guess it depends on how much you drink mate.

Apparently your body cannot store energy generated from alcohol, its the calories you eat either before you drink, or the crisps and kebabs you consume as the munchies hit home. your body will consume the calories from alcohol in preference to other sources which will be layed down as fat.

I,m 43 and had the same waist expansion problem...cured by 30mins every other night on the spin bike..initially helped me to lose weight quite quickly..only downside is you need a drink after youve done a hard session on the bike cos it kills your knee joints, hang on that s a bit of an oxymoron...any way works for me

To be honest Dave, it sounds like you look after yourself anyway, its one of those things that happen as we get older, i would say carry on as you are but just cut down on some of the naughty things. The last time i saw you you were hardly a "lard arse" anyway.

I recon you have put on those pounds since buying that crane....May I suggest you lend it out to an arbtalk member for a few months....namely me!

Your metabolism is slowing Dave, so to compensate you will need to not only cut out parts of your diet, as you are, but also increase your exercise too.

Don't worry too much Dave, if anyone gives you jip saying you got a beer belly just tell them '' It's a fuel tank for a sex machine ''

I was exactly the same....12.5 stone for 25 years and have expanded to 13.5 now. I've got 10 years on you and know exactly how you feel.

Time to sort my bike out:001_smile:
