Well no.

See how long your 1.7liter focus lasts when loaded with tree gear, pulling a tracked chipper on a trailer.

I tried that when I first started. 2 liter volvo diesel estate. It was comfy but not fit for purpose, nor was the VW caddy.

Yeah... I don't think we disagree? At the moment I'm in a 1.9 Passat that I'm quite literally driving into the ground (story ongoing, as we speak!). I need a bigger vehicle.

Sharon on the school run doesn't. She needs a mid-sized estate.

This is the problem with you commies. You don’t know what Sharon needs. And anyway. Why can’t she have what she wants?

Said like a typical labour politician, its just the  usual smudging numbers.

But it's only 15, yeah and you have to pass all that on and it's benefits nobody!.

If all it does is increase customers bill what's the point of doing it!.

All well and good when you work in an office!, but outside in the real world it's bloody hard making every penny.

But that is the basis of all business taxes, eventually the cost gets added onto the ultimate purchaser... which is usually you or me. If taxes have to rise to pay for all the stuff we want, (or wanted) then eventually we have to pay and then we are just discussing how they are disguising the cost increase to me and you. Direct taxes or hidden taxes, how do you want to pay?

If it is a personal vehicle - Chelsea Tractor style - then that is no bad thing, if it is business use only then the business owner only passes on the cost if they have done their sums.... and likely that all similar businesses will be doing the same. Those that buy from a knock at the door by a wandering man with a transit wouldn't be giving you the business anyway, only those that want the job done right... and giving your customers credit... they are smart enough to know that prices rise.

Steven that is flawed logic.

By your rationale if the price of a chipper went up to a million pounds we could simply factor that in and pass on the increase to our customers.

There are too many lifestyle tossers driving double cabs, but as Alex says, it’s entirely up to them what they drive.

They are already taxed to buggery doing 30mpg instead of the 50mpg they could be getting from a more appropriate vehicle.

Reeves is just kicking working people who actually need 4WD, decent towing and crew/tool space.

I’d get an extra/king cab instead of double, but I have a wife who works hard, does well, and has her own vehicle which can ferry about a family of 5 and 2 labradors.

Not everyone has that luxury, so a DC makes perfect sense.

End of the day though it is a business tool.

Same as any tool we use for work, estimate the total number of running hours, the outlay, running costs, taxes, fuels and so on, divide by the length of a job and that is what the customer pays. Simple business maths, if the running costs go up then what the customer pays goes up, or you don't pass on the cost and make a loss. My choice: My kids eat, or the customers kids eat... so my rate increases. The business doesn't take a hit on the extra tax.

I can see where the whinges start 'hitting the business' if you haven't done the basics and don't know what it all costs, or if the vehicle isn't a business expense but a personal one... but pass it onto the business and increase the rate.

Say 15,000 miles a year, add in 20 to 30p a mile whatever it is to cover the tax increase, a small increase in the price of a job when your charging ££ to the hour to do the work. 50 mile round trip... adds £15, but at a day rate of £300+ it is an amount the customer can afford, add in 2 more passengers, £1k a day, £15 is peanuts for the customer.

What a crock of shit SP, lecturing people on doing the basics and throwing fantasy numbers around just doesn’t reflect the reality of the situation. My day rate for milling is at the point where people will either think twice or not bother, sticking extra on will probably tip a good few off the wrong end of that line, mileage rates have absolutely zero impact, you self employed or run a business?

Maybe the daft bint wants everyone driving fuso and 7.5 ton instead?.

Either that or she wants us buying all those old snatch land rovers, like some 1970s sitcom.

Where we all get out aching, swearing and feeling about 500 years old, tweed cap clutched in our hands asking if his grace needs the gardens tending this week as little Timmy is dying from miasma.

The irony of Sharon, (31, Double D cup), driving her children to school in a SUV.

ROAD.CC

US study found SUVs were involved in much fewer crashes than standard cars – but in twice as many fatal ones

And that's before we go into air quality and other detriments
