Anything forced on you by the state (notwithstanding that the state shouldn't be forcing anything on anyone in the first place) should be accessible to anyone, standing there naked, paralysed, illiterate, innumerate, deaf, dumb, blind etc. But of course it isn't. VAT annoys the hell out of me because it has to be submitted electronically. My principal accounts are on paper but VAT has to go through quickbooks or sage or whatever my accountant uses.

Maintain hope for the rest. I'm not the only person fed up with everything being online. More and more people want tangible and will pay for it.

And since I haven't mentioned that I'm in a band for at least an hour now, here's part of a song I wrote about this, called Hope in the Face of Machines:

CHORUS 3:
We've woken up to the same kind of progress    (lack of sunrise)
but there's been no one thing to force a change.
It's long since been abandoned but there is
still hope in the face of machines.

CHORUS 4:
We've woken up to the same counterprogress    (lack of sunrise)
and there will come a thing that will force a change.
Stand on the border and scream your lungs out
to show hope in the face of machines.

CHORUS 5:
And the thing with hope is that it springs eternal
Eternal hope in the face of machines.
There has been, there can be, there must be
There will be life without machines.

Welcome my son , welcome to the machiene , where have you been . Its all right we know where you've been , you've been in the pipe line filling in time . Provided with toys and scouting for boys , you bought a guitar to punish your ma , you didn't like school and you know your no body's fool  so , welcome to the machiene .........

Plus, it's already being used to determine aspects of all our lives, as an integral part of all those aforementioned systems that run the place now. What you fear has already come to pass, plenty of people gobble up AI as gospel, without even a cursery attempt at critical thinking.

Missed this bit earlier. I don't read it if it says it's AI. I stop reading it if I think it's AI. I cut people off if they tell me AI told them something. It's like Gareth on here. It sounds prima facie plausible but it could be total bollocks underneath. It's dangerous to listen to in case you get sucked into believing it.

An example of real danger I thought of a year or so ago was asking AI about battery storage. Tell it you have a bank of lead acid batteries. Ask it whether you should allow them to vent to atmosphere. Will it look at the ingredients of a lead acid battery and decide that those nasty chemicals should be contained and later disposed of in some proper way? Or will it work out that you'd be containing hydrogen offgas?

Must be a million more examples like that.

So yes. It will already be causing problems and it will cause some big ones in the fullness of time. Hence a lot of people's desire to go back to old ways to be sure you're getting an answer with something behind it.

Just try and ask a courier why your delivery is late,, the ai chatbot keeps asking you all the details parcel number, name ,address, postcode, and then tells you "I can see you haven't got your parcel yet" ffs,, that's what I told you at the start, it then goes round in infuriating circles randomly giving you choices for it's next question, all the time ignoring any previous questions, ask to speak to a human and it goes  into meltdown,,,

I find myself asking total strangers what they do for a job,, if I ever find somebody who says"I designed the ai chatbots used by courier companies"

I'm gonna bleed them out right on the spot:cursing:

I can’t remember. Just general curiosity I think. Different type of well to yours possibly.

Just ask the simple question, you shameless blagger.

Wonder how Reeves is going to "fully fund" all these changes, increased spending for the NHS, more money for housing, increased capabilities within policing, more equipment for the forces, no hotel payouts for asylum seekers, bigger prison capacity for serious crimes. But no mention of whose pockets she will dip for this!

Couriers can find my house up north but having stuff delivered to mum and dad's in Suffolk has become a pain. There are new houses over the road, which is either making it harder with maps or just serves as cover for being lazy. I have my phone number as part of the address and I was still getting a load of lies about attempted deliveries etc. Opted for proactivity. Hit Evri first. Found their depot (which they don't advertise the location of for this very reason) and went down there to politely shout at someone. Went back and was less polite the second time. Funnily enough they find the house now. Ones that text you a time window or tracking map, I get on a bike and accost in the village. Sometimes I take it then and tuck it under my arm. I got in the bloke's van for a drum of chain oil I didn't fancy carrying. He knows where the house is now too.

I had a courier turn up at my house with two parcel's from the same sender in identical boxes both with my name and address on them . Stood side by side you could not tell them apart . He would only give me one as the other one was scheduled to be delivered the following day . FFS !
