Battery chainsaw

Any recommendations on a battery chainsaw with decent maybe 1 hour battery life

In your opinion what do you consider 'decent battery life?'

 

I mean....even the most basic stihl msa120 has a CONSTANT run time of 20 minutes......20 minutes I hear you say- that's nothing!!!

 

So lets break that down...that is constant run time. Stihl calculate amount of cuts per charge based on cutting 10cm x 10cm square new wood.....such as a fence post.

 

How long to make one cut through that with a sharp chain....5 secs 10 secs...even maybe 15 secs. Lets say 15 secs per cut being generous. So thats 4 cuts per minute.

 

4 x 20 = 80 cuts mimimum...nearer 100 if we lower the cuts time from the generous 15 secs per cut. Therefore on a small domestic little saw like that why would you need more run time? Its perfect for the use it is designed for...even though initially 20 mins run time sounds pitiful.

Id prefer less run time but decent power to weight but as batteries are alot less energy dense versus petrol its not the easy esp with the larger battery saws

 

For 1 hr run time you'll probably need to use one of thoose ghostbuster style battery backpacks with the more powerful saws, or go  for a lower powered  saw with largest  possible battery fitted.

 

Theres no free lunch.

Tested many not yet seen any which can cut for 20 min, maybe back packs can do .

I've got a Dewalt electric one. Used that plus 54volt 9Ah battery to cut down and log up for the stove a 35-40ish foot sycamore. It took about 45ish mins from start to finish. It ran out of charge with about 5 foot of the butt left.

Is chain speed or higher watts more important when looking for an electric chainsaw for faster cutting

Have been very happy with my husqvarna battery saws and other tools in the system, have used with BLI200 and BLI300 batteries...get a decent length of session doing small firewood, pruning etc

If you are cutting near a power supply consider a corded saw.  I recently bought the most powerful one Husqy do and it will cut all day and cost less than £200.  And there is no battery to fail in xx years.
