There's usually a towing eye point at the front which will be just as good.

The front eye is better, driver looking towards the tree.

I've done it with the van but not a big fan, in my opinion it's a "middle of field" type of trick rather than urban. All a bit uncontrolled, much prefer winch attached to vehicle, or knock enough weight off the back that it falls forward on its own.

Shocking workmanship…..

…..I mean, what kind of idiot points the camera at the road at that moment.

….should be ashamed of himself.

They almost always do this.

Many videos of home owners smashing themselves off ladders or falling to their death have an action shot of the floor at the moment of impact...

You would not have been happy watching me sequentially pull a line of dead elms  into a vacant carpark with the wife's MGB then 😉, it saved a lot of effort banging wedges in.

Nothing wrong with using a truck to assist a fell. Like Kenny Rodgers says though, you gotta know when to hold em (winchman take just enough tension. Feller hold off on cutting the hinge any further) and when to fold em (pull smooth, hard, clean, don't spin wheels)..

You missed the next crucial line : "Know when to walk away and know when to run"

The video in the op is defiantly a time to run away :w00t:

Also:

"You never count your money when you're sittin' on the driveway
There'll be time enough for countin' when the chippings done"

You going to tell us why, in the absence of other methods of applying real pulling power, a truck or loader or even a tracked chipper should not be used if the operators are focking idiots

I'd just 'tweak' your question a touch Michael....

A basic understanding of physics, tree physiology and appropriate felling technique combined with the assistance of a mechanical pull is entirely reasonable.  There is no place in that equation for idiocy though and the idiocy supersedes all else where it wasn't even thought necessary to stop the traffic.

I do like your point about c*nts like this periodically providing the evidence of why prices are what I say they are/

If you think good tree work is expensive, try getting some poor tree work...
