But asking for help here vs something that should be local, word of mouth or even your local church group seems odd after proclaiming barter is alive and well locally.

If you can't be constructive then why don't you go be negative somewhere else.

That's easy, the less people on the forum, the more important he would seem! I think the lad has given up and gone on Freecycle by now and probably had a more positive response!

Mmm a Church Group....so, where do you go...a forum that many arb types, farmers, forestry and grounds maintenance people frequent or the local church to meet 75-90 year olds who go to meet other people for a bit of company and a natter

Well i totally agree with this, i have someone who comes now n then  and will do a days work in exchange for a 5x3 trailer load of logs, he aint got either the cash or the space at home to do it, so he comes to my yard on a sat with his butty box n flask and just plods away for the day, and another lad who comes with us just for the experience of being there working on a timber extraction site and he works with a local domestic tree surgeon, he wont take cash or beers off me he just says he should be paying me, this young lad just wants the experience on a saw which he aint getting at work,

A feeling of importance.

The ability to be contraversial without fear of physical consequenses.

The belief that he posesses some kind of " power" that he flexes over the forum.

If you had actually bothered to read any of his posts, he wanted to go to in need old people and farmers with the wood piled up and not local arb guys.

 

If he wanted to use a local guys yard to split timber, he could pickup a phone book and strike up a conversation and make a deal.

 

That was not what he was offering was it, he wasn't a youngster wanting the experience either.

 

Whilst I may not win any awards for English literature, I can atleast read and read between the lines.

I don't see what the issue is.  Plenty of landowners or even people with large gardens have too much fallen timber lying around, but not enough time to process and stack it. Plenty of people around me in Scotland offer wood on the basis that some goes into their shed or stack. Sometimes farmers will offer wood for free just to get it off their fences. 

 

Buying wood may make sense on paper, but it doesn't feel the same.  Its not quite as bad as burning oil, but you still feel like you are burning £5 notes.  Its much more satisfying and you are more likely to use it, if you have worked for it yourself.
