I'm a full PPE wearer all the time every time.

My old dad ingrained it in to me and I would never consider not using it.

In my view its just not worth risking your life and limbs.

I think rugby union players should wear American football gear.

I don't really. Apologies if that made you feel as queasy reading it as it did me writing it.

Never used to wear PPE before I turned professional many years ago. Now I always wear type c, no matter what the temperature is; just keep pushing the fluid intake. Always wear helmet unless climbing up something really dense like holly, and lid will catch on everything. Very occasionally will use spider man mesh goggles and nothing else (on head!🙈) if extreme heat, climbing and using leccy top handle for light pruning, ie no risk of timber from above clouting me on head.

I used to be a jeans and no helmet guy.

The advance in trouser ‘technology’ means I always wear them for climbing, except in the very hottest of French summers.

Boots, helmet, trousers all the time now.

As Rich says, bring lighter trousers, boots in the truck and change into it as soon as possible.

Its like jumping into a swimming pool!

Like everyone else I try to get the balance between safe and practical.  I wouldn't start a saw without chainsaw trousers and helmet, otherwise its easy for it to become habit using saw without.

But normal steel toecap boots and workgloves as I think risk is less in those areas (on the ground).  I think decent workboots would slow a saw down, and stop it if you hit the toecaps.

A young (but very experienced) friend of mine had his new £250 Saw Boots on the other day and his foot slipped under the trunk he was bucking on a greasy slope.

His 500i got his boot between where the tongue starts and toe cap ends, and it went through like a knife through butter.

The Kevlar didn’t block the chain, he hit the brake as the cutters touched his sock.

Shook him up a bit I can tell you.

Most safety workboots aren’t steel toe capped, they use a composite plastic against crush injuries.

Saw will go through them no bother.
