It was a Topic that had a Hazelnut in every bite.. but I can't remember one that loaded😄

 

But a quick google suggests a guess of Badger or Hedgehog who's scat looks surprisingly similar, or maybe a large Marten, cheers.

badgers normally have latrine pits to mark territory, hedgehog is a good shout.

I'd go with something like a pine martin too, as they are very omnivorous plus the photo looks like a woodland area.

 

Without knowing roughly where in the world you are, if it's pine martins you'll probably notice a reduction in grey squirrels population and or an increase in reds. Which is never a bad thing!.

Actually some of the conservationists are starting to twig on that if they introduce an excessive number of pine martins, once they're done killing the greys then they start killing the reds, and the upturn in red squirrel numbers is short lived.

 

Not saying that trying to decrease grey squirrel numbers is a bad thing, but unsurprisingly, addressing a problem which has built up over more than a century is going to take more than a few years.

I've not heard about that, I do know that the reds can smell them and greys can't.

 

Just presumed like most predators, they just move territory to a place with easy prey.

 

The greys around me are wary for good reason but the buzzards are helping to keep a check on things.
