It used to be said that the US had never lost a war when they used mules for logistics... but of course, correlation does not equal causation, and all that.

I remember watching an interview with a former SAS trooper talking about his career, Lofty Wiseman. He talked about being in, I think Oman, helping the regime fight insurgents. They had to use donkeys to take kit up a mountain for an OP, he said it was a nightmare, the things were so stubborn they'd just do what they wanted and the handlers (locals) thought it hilarious. At one point when the lead donkey stopped and lay down for the umpteenth time he lost his temper, approached it and gave it the hardest right hook he could muster. The donkey didn't flinch, completely aloof, but the handlers got the message and suddenly became serious about motivating the donkeys better. Progress was then made but he'd rather have used something with an engine.

Donkeys are probably more reliable than what they were using.

Yeah, I know what you mean. They're lovely animals, full of character, (to put it diplomatically!).

On the other hand, Donkey Salami is very good.

I was reading reports that the Ukrainians can’t be trained in NATO tactics and insist on reverting back too soviet ones.. we have given them all our N laws which cost 20k a time and they where using them RPGS or worse abandoning them , there is now a thought the Russians now have more than we do… there was that whole brigade who where trained by the French who deserted , they had been given a lot of advanced weapon systems and AFV’s and they just walked away.. I think the soviet donkeys will be matching in to Kiev soon!

I think a lot of the tactics are a result of necessity. NATO tactical doctrine relies on overwhelming air superiority 🤷‍♂️they don’t have that but do have bucket loads or rpgs as do the other side hence they are in use.

This . They tried the Nato stuff and it was not suited to the war they were fighting . They ( the  Ukrainians ) are innovative and clever . I am not sure we could have adapted so quickly or made such an impact on overwhelming numbers .
