If the track is undrivable, back the dumper out and go the last bit with it. Can go into the trees as well, less walking. Couple of planks for crossing deep trenches etc. Save energy by not carrying your gear, take your gear to the work in one trip instead of two or three. Dumper can even pull trees around, within reason. Plus, you have a mobile base for your stuff, so it doesn't get scattered around the woods and lost.

 

Really good suggestion, and if you’re paid by the ton would go a long way to improving your take home.

Pickups are over rated IMO. 
Only really useful if needing to tow more than 3ton AND NEED 4x4 to do so. 
 

Far more kit space, security, comfort in a wee van

 

sounds like a 4x4 van would be best 

 

a mates 4x4 caddy went in the snow and ice where I went in my previous hilux, tbh I think the caddy faired better than the hilux (both on studded winter tyres)

i have a berlingo  too low to the ground even more so when loaded. i cannot get up my track wet and it is stone. I am thinking dacia duster diesel as well. 50 gallon i believe. the berlingo is the multi space but the back seats rarely down. I will have to look a space in the duster maybe strip as pointed out.

This is my mates Dacia Duster. Drove 300 yards up a ride like this, backed in and parked. Drove straight out with absolutely no drama.

I fully expected to be pulling him back out to the stone road with the winch tractor. A bit small in the back but stripped out it should be similar to the old Astravan I reckon. And a realistic price too.

That made a big difference.

mines the older shape 53 reg. time for a change me thinks. dont get me wrong i love it fantastic load space if i take the seat stays out and trim i can get an ibc  in it.

A lot of the forestry guys round here run Jimnys or similar. Cheap to buy and run, when all you need is a couple of saws, felling bar & wedges, lunch and PPE then a pickup is overkill. And a Jimny is probably a better off road vehicle than most!
