Cracking saw Jamie, as IronMike says get the xpg.

Light with plenty of power.

Mine has only ever worn a 15”, but 18” is great for a chogging saw.

Does the heated grip make much of a difference in the UK?

none of my other saws have a heated grip

I have a Mk2 550 and I use it for exactly the sameas the OP. Small stuff on the ground and i bought it so i could have a light ground saw in the tree for stems and its also been great for crane jobs

18inch bar .325 pitch and 058 gauge and it runs really well, i keep the air filter really clean and its great!

Great saw versatile and light. Wished I’d bought the heated handle one last winter. I find it can bog down in a bore cut but to be fair only when your cutting stuff that’s a bit big for it. It’s robust as but I reckon that if you’re using an18 inch bar something with a bit more beans will do better.

Agreed Engine capacity  divided by  3 = max bar lenght as rule of thumb .

I've had a 550 xpg (heated handles) mk1 since they came out. It's just died, and I'm getting the mk2 to replace it.
Great saw, and I'll definitely be getting heated handles again. Helps reduce white finger apparently, as well as keeping your hands warm /dry.
Too hot to hold without gloves though, so you can just switch the handles off.

Currently a long wait from most suppliers though. I'm told early December date for delivery to UK dealers?!
