Shifting Brash

Maybe there is friction there. At the time the next door neighbor was fine with it. He's having his house extended so there's no garden to be seen and he seemed perfectly happy to have it out as it blocks light to his anyway. I don't understand why he wants it through the garden, lots of tiny little flowers and plants to get crushed, the drag also has to go over a little wooden bridge over the coy carp pond so that will no doubt get crap in it of the branches were just dragged. 🙄

Tell him not to be so bloody stupid, it goes through the neighbours building site garden or he can find someone else to do it.

That's why I'm just going to bump the price up to the point he will go with someone else. I'll be up the tree so a long drag isn't my problem but it's going to be a crap job regardless

I would take my chipper in and wheelie bin it out BUT it's razor sharp and 24hp, which is a totally different beast to the average hire TW13/75.

I would say if you know someone with their own mini chipper that uses it a lot then go for that but don't hire one because a blunt one will indeed drive you nuts. You'd be better off to chainsaw the brash down and stuff it into the wheelie bin like that.

Can you give two prices? Say it's £200 more for coming out through the garden because you need another man on the ground (or stack it more). That way it's perfectly clear the reasoning and also not possible for them to expect to pay one option but get the other. And whichever option more people on the ground makes the drag easier.

It's becoming most of my jobs too. Tomorrow is a largish bay prune and 2 other trees to be taken out through the house.

The job with the leylandii is annoying. I went to quote it and the neighbour seemed nice and was happy for it to be removed through their side. I gave a lower price because I could park the chipper 15ft from the tree but the customer has now decided that they want it taken through their garden and not from the neighbors side (asking at the same price) so I'm tempted to just stick a load of £ on it and not do it. I get the feeling I'm the only one who quoted a sane price because of the easy access from next door where the other guys quoted for removal through the garden. I think I'll just go higher with the quote to the point where I probably won't get it and if I do it will make it okay and I'll throw the guys some more money too

That's all you can do. Price accordingly.  It's not overpricing. Most people understand.  As for going through houses, I just don't qo there, it's a dead cert that something will get damaged or scratched

I remember a story years ago, think it was on here. Guys priced a large conifer removal in London.  3 storey terraced, so they priced to take it all through the house.

On the day, the house next door has a crane, loading roof tile or something. They dropped the operator a ton, and he got the lot out!

Nearest I've come to anything like that was a road sweeper coming past just as we finished picking up the last bits 😁

I removed a hedge on a bank, thought I’d winch it out no problem. Ground was hard as concrete and every stem snapped. Was due to dig it out and put footings in for a wall - two hours in and two of us had made a very poor start on it. Digger driver over the road just finishing his day so I asked him how much - he said give me 40 quid! Had the 12 foot trench all done and loaded into my truck in 20 mins so he got a good drink on top as well 👍
as for the thread - wee chipper all the way, at least 15hp and sharp blades

You’ll be up the tree for the start but I presume you’ll be back on the ground for the end game🤔. The final tidy up will be a pain with a garden laid out like that. If I had a small chipper that would be the answer as others have said, contain the mess around the tree. Also cuts out the problem of blown/ stray wood chip on the chaps gravel drive😳

That's the stuff dreams are made of. 👌🏻
