Converting log splitter to single handled operation

This report seems to indicate the obvious, that if you have more than one person operating the machine, you are more likely to have an accident than working alone.  If this is the case, two handles will not help safety when working with others.

Nearest I’ve come to having an accident with the splitter is indeed when feeding it whilst another person operated the two handles. Slight misunderstanding between us and just nipped my thumb,  luckily managed to pull my hand away sharpish and no harm done but defo a reminder of the potential for harm.

You got a sad face purely because I was disappointed in your lack of perspicacity.

Yeah maybe if I’d been a little more sagacious I’d have not had the near miss, luckily said thumb is potatoe fine 👍😆

Strange? I’ll guess it’s the tongs you tried as the Stihl ones are very ergonomic and effortless hook into logs and lift them.

Sorry, meant to say I had a hookeroon before. It was  too slow for moving split logs but should work out for me with rings. Because I get tree service wood, cutting into a large pile of all kinds of shapes and sizes of wood spreads cut rings all over the place so I can use the hookeroon to pull rings  from the pile and centre them near the splitter easier

Yeh, I never use it for moving split logs. I tip from the splitter right into the trailer if on my own or let the pile build up if the missis is coming back at a later date to bag up the logs.

I knew a good guy awhile back who sold logs, he told me was going to speed up his tractor for his log splitting. The next time I bumped into him he had a bandage on what was left of his thumb! I brought a big log splitter recently I thought about doing the  same for a while (then remembered!) and thought not! Slow but healthy log splitting for me!
