If you want to sell the wood you need to process it first, or get someone to do it for you. It will cost you more than the wood is worth, if you get someone in, unless it's of exceptional value..

Without pictures and more information,  your location, the trees location, we are all in the dark.

Don't think, because you've mentioned the word 'oak' everybodies eyes are going to light up

Hello

Thank you all. It is a huge tree, solid, not hollow looks like there has been an underground stream under it and the roots have given up over the weight of the top ... I am not an expert.. just a primary teacher. We are in the new forest. the trunk is as high as the fence  ( 6ft).

Insurance does not cover this. My hope was once that I could get three planks out of it to make a table top for me and my two children (3 x 1 planks) then someone takes it away and profits from a large amount of Oak. Lots of very thick branches, that are the size of most trees I have seen.

I have been told it is 200 years old. It has a TPO on it... it was in full leaf and looked fab last year. Can take more pics if needed.

To avoid the very real potential for sarcasm and acerbic wit, prob best to have a quick reality check.

Unless it genuinely is an exceptional stick of wood and you manage to find someone that actually wants it, you might  you might be better off trying to find someone who’s down on their luck and would have a hack at it in return for the firewood.

Since you’ve now said it has a TPO you might want to consider the implications.
