I got my tree reduced has it been done well?

It’ll be fine.
“Loads more light now”.
I’m sure this is what the client asked fir....
I’ve seen far worse, by reputable firms too.

I’ve known people to want it done exactly the same... 20ft off the top, and yes sycamores  they were..then when yo7 say there’s no growth points  but I can do it 10ft higher as there’s a growth  point. No is the answer.

 So you say you want a cut there, and point with the laser... yes they say.. ok. That’s  xxx pounds

the vigorous nature of sycamore, means  the homeowner is correct.   As it didn’t die.🤔🙈

Just because it’s a sycamore it does not mean it will survive being butchered ... the OP s tree will probably survive but I’ve seen plenty die... inc ones I’ve done myself when the customer has demanded this.

Because she wouldn't know what the finished article would look like until after the work was completed.

I don’t think the arborist ‘pruning’ a tree during its dormant phase in the winter makes him/her unskilled in any way - it’s largely recognised as the right time to undertake such work.

There are other aspects of this job that may lead to the ‘unskilled’ conclusion though...

The bulk of our pruning tends to be at ground level, we don’t ‘sell’ many reductions to customers. Big tree in the wrong place - pay once and put something more suitable in or leave it alone.

Margaret - you’ll be spending the same money on that tree every couple of years until you finally get sick of it and bite the bullet to remove it. Plenty of ‘arborists’ will happily keep taking your money. Spend once more, get it out and plant something lovely would be my advice.
