Best pickaroon / log dragger

I've got the little stihl branded one, I use it for everything from picking up and moving large rings that are too be split to loading and emptying ibcs. The handle feels good, but the head is beginning to come loose and I would like to put a bit of string or something on the handle to hang it off the log splitter rather than leave it in a log.

Yeh we’ve got one of those small Stihl ones and the same thing happened, handle has lasted but wedge came out. Good idea about having something to hang it up with, could just drill a hole in the end of handle and tie something through it.

I have the Stihl one also, I brought one of those hammer holder belt loops off Amazon and just hang it off that when im on the splitter....result!

I bought the ally one from rob D with loop for brash (woodchuck?)
it’s ok but have only used the loop once as I can shoulder as much without the hassle of putting the wire on.
I’ve never found it satisfying to use although it does its job, I’ve recently bought a short husky one with hickory handle, much more ergonomically pleasing, it has forged head so presume it is actually made by hultafors like the wood handled forged axes husky sell

I've a couple of long and short log tongs, which i prefer to a pickeroon. I struggle with golfers elbow on the right and tennis elbow on the left and using tongs instead of having the impact from the pickeroon has helped. Just took a wee bit of practice with the tongs.

My pickeroon was home made from an old broken axe handle with a coach bolt thru the end, bent to shape and ground to a point. local chap who taught me how to sharpen made it up for me.

Felt compelled to drill a hole in mine, then got it stuck in the hydraulic log splitter, knackered the point by being silly on a pallet fork, ground too much off with the bench grinder when trying to sort that out and then hit the handle with my fiskars log splitter. :(

I have four pairs of tongs, I'll rank them below according to my experience in using them.

Husqvarna ~ most expensive, best to use. Biggest capacity wise.

Stihl / ebay jobby. Both will pick up the same size log. The Stihl feels better made, but haven't used either long enough to determine durability. The ebay jobby is cheaper.

Stubai from Chris forestry. Well made and cheapest. Work well but smallest log capacity of the four. Perfect if you don't want to lift anything too heavy. Nice company to deal with as well.
