No previous employers will give him a reference Mark - non of them - very unusual I think because if he was ok - even nothing special, they would have give him a reference

i know my work will only say now folks worked there from day x to day y and thats about it - crazy culture where cant say good or bad now without fear of somebody complaining.

You would like to think so Paul, but it’s more the giving a trial a swerve that would bother me.

Afaik you cannot ask for a work reference in France.

When the time comes for one of my lads to go after the greener grass, they ask me fo a reference, which of course I do.

On the other side of the coin when I’m hiring they send me their cvs, which is only a rough guide, or come and see me . Between 5 minutes and an hour I can tell if they can cut the mustard, if they can, they stay, if they cant they go at the end of the day.

I had the best response when I included the wage in the advertising.

 

It looks to me as if you want someone who possesses all the attributes capable of running their own firm/ sub contracting.

 

The wage is going to have to reflect this.

Problem with this is most lads starting out especially career change hero's think they are worth a lot more than they are so when I did this once it becomes a nightmare telling someone who has only cs30-31 from last month that they ain't worth that money but I'd start you out on less but that not to say if your good you won't be on more than advertised in a years time.
Also I've found as soon as you talk money someone who's paying £800 a month rent for a single room in central London shout's up he wouldn't get out of bed for what we earn upt North and live fairly on and it just descends into a undervalued staff debate.
