I too think that some petrol engines are less good at emissions and it may be that in time, they too have a new set of regs to adhere to with convertors and stuff in the exhaust  system. Who knows....

I find the Vanguard Efi to be a user of oil.

I've not measured the rate but it often catches me by surprise just how low the oil has dropped between blade changes.

Might just be mine of course...

Who exactly will know if it's not running clean, are there pollution police? I.e. if i asked you to fit a 1505 engine from new, no questions asked, what's stopping you?

It’s not a point of who will enforce existing machines. It’s a point of if the engines can’t meet the levels required to be retailed anymore. If the engines don’t comply they can’t continue to sell them hence not available and having to switch to a cleaner engine for their chippers so forst are going to Doosan.

Except, what happens if you have an older machine and the engine blows up? Can you not get a replacement?

Apparantly,  if you have an older unit that blows up, and they are still available, then a new one can be fitted or the old one can be rebuilt if the parts are available. It applies to new chassis numbers going forwards.

This emissions on plant malarkey is already rearing it’s ugly head, quite a few sites now especially in town won’t allow diesel plant on site unless it’s running add blue, gas conversions on some diesels will probably act as a stop gap but long term we will all see the demise of the Older Diesel engines.

And they are in difficulties , about to go down the pan and most of the blame is being pointed at the unreliability issues.

I think your find they probably aren’t!

I'm struggling to get my head around this - Forst say they are going DPF diesel so i look at Timberwolf and they don't even sell a diesel 8" any more! Their 6" which is the 230 has gone from 35hp to 24hp but their marketing says 'more power'! The stats on their website says that the 24hp produces 4 tonne per hour when the 35hp did 5 tonnes per hour so it must be a lot slower!

wish i'd got another of the 45hp a few months back now :(
