K&H are about the best , Stihl are good but at a certain point they will start to absorb the strike because of the material they are made of and whatever you are driving them with just bounces off. Get yourself a good farriers rasp to dress whatever you get and you'll get more life out of them.  As for the Oregon they're fine ok but only if you strike them dead on if not they snap like carrots as already said !

I liked the look of theese bolle ones^ bur they are pricey I have the K & H ones.

I don't think you can beat the steel wedges, heavy and make you more careful when cutting but brilliant. I have a high lift steel my grandfather gave me when I first started, still take it on every felling job. Have a few Oregon plastic for smaller fells and have 3 unused Stihl hilifts that I bought last year. I was advised by someone much wiser than me to put two rings on the end, helps stop the splitting. I heated them up in an old kettle and banged them on ?

Oshsenkopf wedges from Clark forest are good, and they do a plastic insert for hilift wedges which are a decent idea

One ring and a length of 63mm MDPE pipe is even better ?

Stihl hilifts are the nuts,must have a dustbin bag full of the plastic wedges in the chainsaw shed and it looks like the dogs tried to eat them.

Hilifts can also be easily tethered through the hole with chain or starter cord if working steep banks or waterways.

Seriously. Two hi lifts and a big oregon plastic has done me well.. Anything else you should have put a winch up it. K
