I fully get the idea of continuing to work if you can do whilst remaining isolated (milling, firewood, all of that).

But, as unlikely as it may be, the very fact that you are leaving the house presents a risk.  Say you break down on the way, injure yourself at work and need an ambulance or hospital admission etc etc?  That places an extra strain on the NHS and other services at a time when they simply can't afford to have it.

I'm staying in for the duration - other than the minimal once a day walk that the rules say we can take.  And even that makes me feel a bit uncomfortable for doing it.

Today I arranged a payment break for my yard rent (I'm lucky to be in that position), and have cancelled my insurance and SORNed the landy.  If there's no work coming in, which there most definitely is not, then there is no point having these fixed running costs.  The bank promised to look into an overdraft but has now gone on radio silence and it looks like I won't qualify for any of the grants available for small businesses.

When this blows over I'll look to start up again.  Till then it's hunker down and make ends meet.

Good luck to you all

Ed

Just to update my earlier post.  I have now mothballed my firm.  It owes me about 37k of start up money that I put into it as the director (it's a Limited Company).  I will start up again when I can.  I would just like to ask Gardenscape why you deem that funny?

Same here got no choice but luckily I have no family to feed as live on my own but that brings its own issues but am old school and fortunately I have jobs I can do on my own with no contact with anybody else...it is stupid when you think about it,keeping your distance from everyone yet when you go to the garage to get your fuel you inevitably buy something else and your either giving money over or your within 2m of the person serving..o well crack on as i’am still in the dark about getting any help but the upshot is if  I air anybody else are able to it won’t be till June and will be taxed on it anyway.just thank feck it’s still not raining....every cloud and all that.

i tried 1 day with one of the lads and it was a pain in d'arse as we were multi handling saws, ropes, fuel cans while trying to remember to spray each item down and use hand gel,  it was a bit stressful to be honest.  3 other subbies i contacted were scared shitless and didn't want to work so i have decided to do all the easy jobs i can on my own or with my wife as 'groundess',  we are working together today and next week we'll do a day or 2 then that's probably it.    If we have to sit it out and stay away from everyone else for the next few months then so be it.

I’ve got a partially uprooted eucalyptus to get down at a nursery tomorrow. Weekend only time to do it as key worker’s kids still attending.

It’s at a business park so will be a ghost town. Surely this goes down as essential? Who to ask on the matter?

For crying out loud! It doesn't matter if it's essential work, keep away from each other and crack on.

The daughter blew a gasket when she found out I had went into the town yesterday,

for a mirror for a hired digger(I caught it with my bloody shoulder getting in the cab!)

a fill of diesel where I also bought 8 litres of milk(to do the 2 of us a long time ex the freezer, and btw there was oodles of milk on the shelf, or I would not have lifted 4 cartons)

Anyway I took a trigger spray of Jayes fluid and squirted owt I touched.

BUT

The word has got through, everywhere almost deserted, I did business outside the backdoor of the motorfactors with no personal contact,  and EVERYONE was keeping their distances everwhere.

I joked in the filling station shop that it was like long distance ballroom dancing, where everyone, incl the staff behind new plexiglass screens, were very positive and cheerful

P.S.

The hire firm that had closed of Monday, reopened Tue or Wed, but the gates are shut, all by telephone and pre-arranged collections or deliveries only, as I found out when I phoned to pay the bill.

Strange times indeed.

Strange in Town. However i loved the drive from the office back home. Zero holdups over 28 miles, shops full of stuff, which will make those panic buyers take pause ( still saw one fight in Aldi over buying more that two packs) K

We are pretty lucky really. I work with my son, who is currently living at home. So if customers are happy and prepared to stay well away from us, we are just cracking on and working for now.
Don’t know how long we will be able to keep going, got a few weeks work in, but I doubt we will get much new work in the coming weeks.
