Chain mortiser worth getting??

Hi I remember seeing a horizontal one on eBay a while back said it was for doing fences ,maybe worth a look

Hi just looked on eBay couldn’t find the thing I saw but there are a few going for £500/700 defo worth a look

Just looked up and spare chains for them are over £250, so could be an issue with second hand as they must go blunt like chainsaw ones

 

How easy to sharpen them?

Sharpen like a normal chain depending on what type you have, The modern ones tend to have a thick wide chain so that is totally different, This is similar how i do mine but i use a water grinder

Ive just invested in a used Makita one. No used it yet though, someone dropped it off when I was in Norway.  

 

Chains are pricey and Makita say they cannot be sharpened, but I found a company on-line that does them in Englandshire. Seems like folk in the US have them sharpened to. Under £30 sharpened and returned inc vat. Ive seen chains and sprockets on ebay for about £130 new, but generic no names, so no idea of the quality.

I think mafell are supposed to be really good

mafell is top end kit no question. The festool morticer is a beast as well. Pricey but all festool gear is no quiblle repair for a couple years and they replace if its pinched as well.
