Teufelberger ocean friction cord

To save a few pennies on friction cordage I was thinking of buying the ocean 8mm friction cord by the metre thus making my own friction cord to what ever length i need. I have been told that to cut the cord you can’t hot knife the cord, it needs to be cut with a sharp knife instead. If this is so then who do I seal the ends of the cord in order to stop them from fraying.

I’m going on a access and rescue course and I need to make some prussic’s up and I was wanting to make my own using the Teufelber ocean friction cord. Any help would be greatly appreciated.

Thanks Paul Tomo

Thanks for the reply and thanks for adding some pics. I can see that the two ropes are different to each other, what ropes are you using? I’m impressed with the pics. I will google these products and see if I can buy them local to me, so a sharp knife, super glue and some heat shrink or some whipping twine and I’m ready to go. Is the whipping twine something that fly fisherman use?

Many thanks
