Which NEW Pick-Up for Towing?....

  1. 1. Which NEW Pick-Up for Towing.... If you going to get a  NEW Pick-Up for Towing a twin axle trailer (with a 2-3t Trailer and Load) which one would you get. I current Have an Isuzu D-Max Utah 2.5 and can't wait to get out of it. But every one I look at I seem to get advice from owners of not to buy one.

I tow the Avant mostly with my Hilux. When the truck was new, it seemed pretty sluggish and incapable but the gearing is set up for economy. Once the engine gained a few thousand miles it performed so much better. Keeping the gears one step lower with the power band between 2 2.5krpm it tows like a beaut without burning a tonne of diesel.

 

My main gripe with the Hilux is the leaf springs. They seem to be made out of thin pieces of laminate flooring.

Really?  Not sure of the exact rule on that one.  Thought it was 2040kg unladen or something.

 

Are other pickups able to do 70mph?

 

TBH in Norway you can’t do 70mph legally anywhere...  motorway speed limits max is 110kph. LOL.

It’s down to the size and weight of the vehicle i believe.

 

the Navara can do 70, but the Mercedes which is basically a navara cant. I think Mercedes added a bit more weight that took it over the limit. 

 

Not or exactly sure about the rest of them. I think the ford can only do 60

Mate of mine put a set of uprated leaf springs on his hilux, was a 1999 T-reg single cab, made it a bit more rigid/bouncy on the rear when empty but he never drives like a loon so was bearable. Made a huge difference when he loaded up with wood or put ifor plant trailer on with mini digger etc. Can only assume youd be able to get a uprated version/set for yours?! May be worth a look, easy to fit yourself too.

Check out midland road springs, I up rated mine to a 7 leaf as the standard 5 weren’t up to much

I’ve been looking into getting bags installed at the rear. A buddy of mine has had his boss install some on his new Hilux and seems to cope with the weight really well. I drive past a DVLA weigh bridge quite often on the A14 and I’m constantly worried that I’m going to get pulled even when I’m within the threshold as it bogs down so much. Especially when towing also.
