Good point. There's as good a chance that its chipping away in the next town over as there is that it's been taken out of the country.
Given the circumstances of the theft I doubt it was stolen to order. More an opportunistic crime.
Hopefully it takes the hand of whoever stole it.

Just had an idea.. bait the scum.. get old chipper, empty oil tank, fill with explosives, some nails too.. for extra punch. wire through the ignition.. leave down the road from nearest well known site. wait for bang...

Just Ireland is it? It works both ways. Majority of professional thefts around here are currently being done by northern Irish gangs. Jeeps, plant, tractors etc. Being broken for parts and shipped over to the UK. Smaller stuff is often local knackers selling to other knackers.

No, it won't be just Ireland - but think about it, as Mick posted earlier "where are all these chippers going?" - all this stuff that is currently nicked to a ridiculously frequent degree, I don't believe for a moment is staying in the UK. A Hilux stolen in the same area that again was mentioned in earlier post, is it likely to still be in UK? No, straight out of Tilbury or similar in a container bound for Africa. If stolen tools are too hot to shift here they will being going offshore, seriously

There were a couple of JD tractors stolen a few years ago from a Sussex dealer that turned up in Cyprus.

It came to light through the serial number being used when parts were ordered.

I doubt they use a lot of chippers in Africa or even Russia.

 

Certainly in France stolen road going chippers and trailers are all but unsaleable because you need a log book and serial number with them.

 

Perhaps high value engines like the kubota v1505  which goes in a lot of this stuff is where the money is realised.

 

Diggers are a different matter, they stay whole, useful anywhere in the world and no documentation needed.

Surely thats pretty easy to get round, cloning and using numbers of scrap machines, etc?
