This thread has got really interesting......I had this conversation earlier today......with a customer! I had GROSSLY underchatged, knowingly(the reasons are very dull) and he asked me if he could give me some money to which i replied i had given a price and would stick to it, to which he replied by saying that i have to make a profit or something like that. Well i stuck to my price, and cemented any future tree work with him, which includes accepting a £1200 price for a large ash removal.

 

I have however once spoken to an existing client about a pricing balls-up and he met me half way between what i had said and what i said the price ought to have been. I explained that he was totally within his rights and there would be no problem if he declined, as i had made the mistake, and he offered halfway willingly, which i accepted.

That was all done before i started though, which i think is the only time, if ever, you can do it, and like i say he was someone i had done a lot of work for over 3 years.

Maybe you need to be brave and put in a proper price and have guts to stick to it :001_smile:

 

Thats all very admirable 'man of principle' BS but only a complete fool would soldier on to break even or make a loss, have the confidence to tell the customer you've made a mistake with time or there were unforseen circumstances that have arisen during the job

 

So you want a one way steet, the price goes up if you under price, but not down when you over price :sneaky2:

 

the price never goes down, not ever. You sweat to get your money in treework, making a little extra profit never hurt anyone especially when the customer was happy with the original quote and is completely satisfied with the work you've done

 

You would not work for me.

 

ever noticed how sometimes when you visit a person to give a quote, you are wary or get a bad feeling about the person - wether it be their ability to pay or just simply that they'd be a total nightmare to deal with, thats you :biggrin:

if i quote a job @ £350 !! thats what is billed whether i get the job done by 1pm or 6pm, if i get the job in front thats my experiance paying off ,somthing you will learn in time :thumbup1:

You clearly feel my business model does not work, but I NEVER only break even, I ALWAYS make a profit and alway have :biggrin:

 

Maybe I'm just better at pricing than you, if asking for more keeps you in business keep it up.

 

My way works for me, so I'll stick to it.:001_smile:
