Pricing cock up

I do this every once in a while; look at a job, put a price on it, get it, and then turn up a few weeks later and think WTF was I thinking! I thought 1 day to get it all down and pop back for the rest of the timber the next day.

 

Its not the end of the world,

We took a full load of chip and another of timber and there's still as much again left if not more.

 

Thats what happens when you price jobs in the dark.

I've done the opposite. Quoted 2 'large oaks' in july. Quite a lot of money.

 

Client asked me back to have another look. The job's yours he said, then I looked at the trees with no leaves. God they look small. He wanted a large pine out so I said I'd do that for free. Fell better and right about the job now

That happens to me too, but i rarely feel bad about it, after all it cancels out the cockups.

I do the same with quotes its just as well the good ones make up for the bad ones

Yup BT, although they aren't that close, we manage to work round them ok, its over 5 different gardens so we're rigging most of it.

I was just thinking about this the other day when a job took longer than expected, more through the job parameters changing, than under-estimating.

 

Nevertheless, there was more to it than I had imagined when first quoting.

 

It only maybe happens once a year, but the common factor was squeezing in looking at the job on the way home, in failing light before the clocks change.

Why we gotta love this job...cock ups included but they do get you down,but chin up mate as long as you dont break anything! its all a learning curve evan if you end up working the week end to finish it!.......and im still learning 15 years in to this game and still making mistakes pricing!
