Wage! How much should the going rate be?

When's the last time you had to get a plumber, electrician, chippy etc.

£200+ per day

That's all over the country.

My point is if we under value our services we only have ourselves to blame.

 

This couldn’t be more true. Everywhere in this industry people moan and compare wages with other trades and agreeing arb is a bit behind.

 

But then on the other side you have threads like this saying your pricing yourself to high.

 

Maybe it’s jealously that your able to get work at that price and thats more than what they charge ? I don’t know but if you can get work at that price I think fair play and it’s only going to do the industry a favour in the hope of driving up wages and hopefully reduce the amount of companies/ people under valuing themselves.

I doubt there’s a single trade forum in existence without a thread running about low wages.

I get that and there is a terrible problem in the industry where money is concerned and all because someone will always do it cheaper. Sadly, regardless of weather it's hiring a subby or quoting a job, an awful lot of people are happy to just go with the cheaper option. If you're happy then just stick to your guns but for me and many others, sadly sticking to your guns doesn't pay the bills so have to compromise

I won't as there are lots that are happy to do the same job cheaper, simple as that

Whenever someone says something along the lines of “if we all put our prices up the the industry won’t be undervalued etc.”

 

I always think, ‘ok, you first’

If you are good just chuck it and start yourself, I don’t see why any climber would stick working for anyone else after they have learnt the ropes.

I see your logic Mike, but doubt it would actually work out that way, not on a big scale at least
