A 3.5 ton truck,8" tow behind chipper plus a stump grinder.

Then spend 10k on advertising.

When i started up 10 years ago,i spent 40k of my own money. But the competition was scarce then and it enabled me to hit the ground running.

I was spending 1200 quid a month on advertising at the time.

If you had £50,000 cash to startup and only a full climbers kit and top handle, what would you prioritise in terms of kit and survival for bumpy first year or 2?

You might be able to buy a small business for that money. I have heard of a couple of firms recently who have given up the tree game, but could not find a buyer for their businesses... Do not underestimate how long it takes to build a good reputation..

and I am in the buy truck (definitely) and chipper (possibly) after depreciation hit camp... A new tree truck will look like an old one in a matter of weeks...

Tree work isn't the sort of work you want to be doing with a brand new motor unless you have a very good turnover. I just picked up a new (for me) 08 transit with only 39k on the clock for £5k. A £25k one wont look much smarter and will do the exact same job

No need for 50k of equipment etc to start up. 5k-7k on a 3.5t tipper well maintened low mileage cabstar transit etc (sign write it), 5k on a timberwolf chipper, 2k on a few saws and hedgetrimmers, 1k a year on a  yard rental to store stuff/bonfires etc,  2k on a shipping container, 1k on advertising. Invest the rest  of 35k in shares, buy to let. Potentially stay with what your doing full time and do weekend work to start with , then cut down part time where your working.
