Gave up growing carrots 10 years ago because of carrot fly.Thought I’d have another go this year and the results are quite pleasing

When I was growing veg properly on an allotment some years ago it was always the understood wisdom to either net carrots or grow them with alternate rows of onions.

I have done for years, but nowadays I stick to the high yield low effort ones: spinach, French beans, tomatoes, courgettes, and about a dozen herbs. Also lots of berries.
This has been my motto for the last few years as well; dependable, high yield, low effort fruit and veg. Plus a couple of "cash crops" like strawberries, blueberries and garlic, (though garlic is very low effort anyway).
I normally can't resist one or two novelty fruit or veg as well.
I grew these little pumpkins for the first time this year, "Sweet Dumpling". Small but perfectly formed! Really good to eat. We had one last night. Firmer and more creamy than a butternut squash.

I have tried carrots between onions, shallots and garlic andit seems to work well with early cops but am now netting late crops

Had it in both apples' fruits, both pears' and the gage; all fruit rotted on the tree.  You need to pick it when it first appears mouldy and deeply bury it or remove it from site apparently.

Also tidy up all the leaves and either burn or remove offsite, don't compost

someone gave me a butterbush to grow not a big fan of the squash plants but i decided to cube and roast it and it was ok bit like crispy chips with a soft fluffy middle but i don't think i will bother growing them again
