Just an observation from a secondary school perspective.

 

We live in Suffolk which had seven seats up for election.

Before yesterday all seven seats were Conservative.

Post election the Ipswich seat has been won by the Labour candidate with the other six remaining Tory mostly with very strong majorities.

 

My lads go to a school in Bury St Edmunds, all week they have been having an election special being given unbiased access to the different party manifestos.

 

There are 23 classes in the school and all the students were asked to vote yesterday.

 

the the results;

 

19 classes had a Labour majority

3 had a Conservative majority

1 had a Green majority

 

 

Quite a different view of the world from their parents it would seem

 

.

 

I'm surprised they did not all vote Labour.

 

Why would people not want all the things they promise?

 

Its their inability to fulfil their promises that is the reality those of us out of short pants can remember that puts us off.

Politicians are the few paid for by the taxes of the many yet backed by the few who have most of the country's wealth.

 

It's only natural we manual workers respect those property and landowners who are in charge. Most of us here probably vote to continue to have them stay in charge because most of us work for them after all

Corbyn has got

 

(1) some of the UKIPers back on board,

 

(2) the old LibDemers supporters who have had a change of mind (again!),

 

(3) the swinging voters who are that weird group who aren't tribal and don't think of politics like footy, and

 

(5) these youngsters who have been persuaded to try their voices out at last.

 

This swing to Labour is just a rebalancing. Most of us have hearts as well as heads and can understand that.

 

Labour as an opposition will now be able to reign in the extreme brexiteer's excesses which is good for everyone - including non-wealthy brexit fanatics

 

As national income inequality increases (wage stagnation, falling £££ etc) and as the rich can only get richer and poor poorer, the Tories are going to have to find something better than 'strong and stable'.

 

Look at all the funding they had compared to Labour. It's a battle between money and ideas, property and hope for a better future.

 

This is real politics- everything is up in the air and everything is to play/pay for

Yup. It's a child's mentality to want things now. Adults know you have to work, save up and pay your own way

These are the two labour governments that I remember in my adult life, not a great track record TBH.

 

I guess the students like what Labour promise as at that age they have little to lose and as they grow up, earn and have assets and pay taxes, their views may change.
