I think a lot of "self employed" people are effectively employees.

 

However I think the government turns a blind eye as they'd rather people were out working than sitting at home.

 

Let's be honest, if a small company employed someone that was a no hoper it could effectively bust the company. Without "self employment" many small firms could never bring in outside labour.

I would be keen to see the government crack down in all the fake self employed, with something like the CIS scheme for all industry, so everyone but bonafide subbies are taxed at source, would simplify things hugely. The main grief I get when trying to find guys is the myth that they're better off self employed but want to work with us 'all the time'.

It wouldn't for me, I sub into a few jobs and they sub to me, I do my own books, last thing I need is to be dicking about with cis!

Totally agree!

 

CIS came about because that business sector was completely & consistently taking the P out of the system - so they got walloped. No sympathy.

 

It'll spread to other sectors if HMRC see a similar trend.

 

Astonishing to see some obvious P takers who obviously don't "get it" or choose not to - example, recent "best in the West" AAAC outfit advertising in employment forum for "full time Self employed staff."

 

Full time & self employed are mutually exclusive - it's really not that difficult to grasp, unless your purposeful intention is to exploit staff, avoid tax and dodge employment law.

Not much dicking about, would just mean your tax bill would already be paid. So no need to find that lump sum each year. To be fair it sounds like you may be genuinely self employed but you're in the minority.

I think the amount of training that is required to get somebody half way ticketed means individuals are less likely to put themselves through courses, more cost to the employer I think cs 30 31 is around £1000 aerial rescue same, wages paid while they are doing training, £450 on ppe, it takes me around 2 weeks to get somebody going to a level your not repeating yourself, the lack of good hardworking lads are few and far between so it makes you reluctant to invest in people.

I can take someone on doing grounds maintenance and in a day get them going, training....their int non! Ppe is £100 for decent clobber day rate is still the same...much more choice of staff as its a different skill set, your not riving yourself about all day....think it might be time for a change.

I get that it can be a one sided arrangement for the employer a lot off the time, but it not always the case.

 

If I were to work for one company full time I'd still rather do it on a self employed basis.

 

A lot of climbers supply their own kit, and I imagine would prefer being able to claim their expenses back, set their own day rate, and effectively be in control of their time instead of the perks of employment like paid holiday, ppe etc.
