Most of the migrants we are taking are not escaping the hell that is the Syrian war! Also how many safe countries are between Syria and the UK?! They are safe in Turkey, Greece, Spain, Italy, Austria, Germany etc etc there is only one reason they seek the UK as there final destination, HANDOUTS.

Did it not strike anyone as bizarre last summer that it was all men walking down the railways towards the UK??? Surely these men should be fighting said war and sending the women and children?

Public opinion is the reason Thereasa May turned away thousands of Syrian children.

We have a history of taking in refugees. We took in around 10,000 Jewish children in the 1930s/40s. That's something to be proud of in my opinion

Do you really think we should be taking child refugees from France? I wasn't aware there was a war in France? Are the child refugees you're talking about the ones that look about 25 with bushy beards?

Will the Syrians return to Syria once the war is over? Or will they stay in Europe and become a burden to the taxpayer for generations to come?

Good post. It is a shame that more isn't being done to create incentives to stay and re-build or stay and develop the countries that people are fleeing from.

If mass migration was halted then people (government, aid agencies, NGO's and community groups) would have more incentive to improve the places they live in. At this rate there won't be anyone left in these places except those who are too poor to leave.

The only people left will be the poor, uneducated and the unskilled.

What do you suggest, bomb them less frequently?

"EU must reform or face Frexit" said Macron.

I didn't personally vote for us to leave the EU but do understand why a large percentage of people voted out, part of me feels the same way.... Macron has hit the nail on the head here.

Had the EU reformed years ago things could have turned out very different & we probably wouldn't have had the in/out vote.

Without EU reform the UK would have always been destined to leave at some point. Unfortunately the UK will probably be paying a higher price than if we were to leave at a later date, say in another 10 years.

Ho-hum, it is what it is.

Is he saying that to assuage Le Pens constituents or is he speaking from conviction?..

If from conviction and he means what he says, then perhaps he might become an ally during brexit talks..

If he's talking about it to steal Le Pens thunder, then you'll know as soon as Brexit talks begin and the French side with Merkel..

No matter his motives, he is right. without Europe taking border security seriously, Europe wont last another ten years...

Agreed!

Someday soon the UK Politicians will realise it's not Teressa May pushing us to an uncompromising departure from the EU but rather it is the EU doing so.

It'll be a fine balance for the EU to play - play hard ball and the UK will revert to WTO rules, worse for EU than it would be for UK. It's been likened to a divorce, get too nasty and end up with nothing!

The EU should (but can't) realise the fragility of its own existence before trying to dominate the UK.

Brexit is just the beginning! What happens when all that is left are the basket cases? No one to pay in, everyone wanting to take out...

Not sure, but quite possibly a bit of both.... its a vote winning stance, for sure.... and if you ask around there aren't many people within the EU that say they are entirely happy with the way things are, he probably feels the way most remainers feel.... ie, not entirely happy.
