He would probably still be hear if his so called 'mates' didnt egg him on and escalate the problem.

Having manners isnt all about not swearing or raising your voice.

Never heard him swear . Who do you class as his " so called mates " I for one did not want him to leave . We discussed it privately and it was his choice . He is a very friendly chap and I like him a lot .

I've met Jon and he's a smashing bloke, and I used to enjoy his input on here.

Then he went a bit crazy and was literally posting on every thread, all the time.

It was ruining Arbtalk.

Yes, reading a thread became like trying to wade through treacle, IMHO.

This.

Though the way in which "the final battle" happened is what I meant to describe as vile and despicable in my earlier post.

The lynch mob mentality is a scary beast once unleashed (as shown several times, "any Christians on arbtalk" "any Muslims on arbtalk" and several sections of the brexit and trump threads being evidence of such, the Christian thread in particular left me quite shocked about how seemingly normal folk can behave)

Jon is a good chap, he was acting like a knob though and it seemed he couldn't see this himself. When he was gently made aware of the unsuitability of his behaviour he still didn't, which wasn't helped by the fact a number of people told him all was fine and dandy and other users should just stop moaning.

I think this as much as his own posting compulsion lead to the battle at Big Butt Coral...

Right, here goes.

Jon is fine and in good health. If you miss him and want a chat, his mobile phone number is extremely easy to find on here, he wasn't banned to the best of my knowledge instead he simply chose not to continue posting. I've met him at shows and he seemed like a good guy, a sentiment which is echoed by almost everyone but his posting was turning people away from logging on due to the sheer volume and nature of what he was putting up. From an Arbtalk point of view I'm glad he doesn't post here anymore. I generally use Arbtalk for tree related talk, although there are sometimes exceptions to this, but what Jon was doing was excessive.

All the people who bang on about missing Jon, go and find him and have a chat, he hasn't died, stop turning it into something it isn't and making him a martyr.

John the martyr can't wait to tell him that.

John was struggling before he left the sad thing is a lot who claim to know him so well did not see this.
