  1. 1. Are there too many tree surgeons in the UK?

    • Far too many; so much competition I can barely survive!

    • Not too many but don't need any more!

    • Could do with a few more to be honest!

    • Nowhere near enough. So much wood and so little expertise!

If being the boss of your own company employing staff etc was the time of your life why aren't you doing it anymore?

Cuz it's a load of hassle and ya can make good money plodding about as a one/two man gang?

And you can't blame people for trying; If you took away everything that I have tonight, I'd be back out tomorrow looking for a second hand chainsaw so I could start all over again.

From memory Tony was pretty much cleaned out by thieves.

He's some climber, and knows his stuff.

He moved to Bulgaria where he's now happily living the dream on a smallholding with woodland.

I miss his input, we had some cracking rows but he's a top guy.

I imagine it would help a lot of us if the price of scrap went up! :P It would round my way anyhow...

Ha, brilliant thinking!! It's as if all the scrap metal blokes have put wooden boards on the side of their trucks, nicked a saw and become 'tree surgeons'

People giving work to idiots happens in every trade I guess.

I've noticed an increase in really poor tree work round here, both truly horrific butchery and nicely shaped reductions obviously carried out by fairly skilled climbers, but with utterly no knowledge of tree biology or future implications.

same here and it seems to be getting worse.  I don't think the majority of firms know what good tree work even is

I think there are a huge volume of what we call companies, but not so many professional outfits with good reputations. That being said, i do have some excellent competitors who i respect and they provide the sort of service we do.
