My eldest son was fast approaching the age of 3 and I became aware that I was about to begin indoctrinating him with my beliefs, I felt this was a huge thing, he was a blank sheet on which we as a family were about to write. I needed to be sure my reality was the correct on.

I bough many books and used the internet, boy oh boy!!! If you look back at the history of Christianity its simply a morph of earlier pagan beliefs, myths and legends. If you get back to the original translation of the bible you can see some of it is a collection of older stories combined.

Human feel a need to have purpose and find meaning in life, but its all the construct of man, a nice little story with a happy ending.

Without any intention of trying to sound patronising, I'm fantastically glad that you came to that conclusion and the very fact that you decided to do all that research prior to indoctrinating your son gives me hope for the billions of people that blindly follow their faith around the world.

My mother in law is a fairly committed Christian and it's taken me years to bring up the question of her faith (for fear of offending her) but I did earlier in the year. I was amazed how well she deflected the questions! :laugh1:

I joke about the big G upstairs and how he dosnt like me but I too dont get it . Creationism Adam and Eve style is complete bollox yet there are some people who firmly believe , and if it works for them then fine . But , I dont agree on having it thrust upon you like some faith schools do . You dont have to have any kind of religion to be a good person .

Nonesence, he and his three siblings are free to go their own way without the ridiculous thought that there is some weired all powerful voyeur watching his every move and keeping a tally of his deeds:lol:

How long is this going to stay off topic?!

Sadly as long as it takes for the atheists or non believers to finish their rant.

Perhaps because Mr. Trump received more votes than any other canadate

in any presidential election by people that consider them selfs Christians may be disconcerting for some folks, however it's just fine by me. I did read yesterday that VP Elect Mike Pence has removed all lobbyist from his bosses cabinet selection. I hope that along with term limits for all elected officials and sacking of everyone that has worked with the occupier of the Whitehouse for nearly the last 8 years Mr. Trump will continue to make progress towards enaugration day of 20-1-2017:thumbup1:

I think Trump will do just fine as president. I don't think that he will get everything his own way but there has to be a few drastic changes to improve the americans lives. Hopefully in a few years some of these changes will cross the pond like cultural changes in the past have. Fingers crossed that political correctness is one of the first.

Regarding the religion/philosophy side of the thread, i have been dead, all be it for a couple of minutes until i was resuscitated. In my experience there was no deity beckoning me and certainly not a hareem of virgins, it was that piss poor an experience that my body decided to respond to the doctors efforts to get me the hell out of there. Might be im just one of the unlucky ones but for me there was nothing just like when you blackout and time goes out the window. So now religion for me is just one less thing to get worked up about.

Muslims born in the UK wishing to attack it is not OK - see previous post. The problem is, there is less we can do about it. However it is a fraction of a percentage of second and third generation Muslims who are being radicalised, not the immigrants.

I agree that most Muslims aren't terrorists. However as history has shown it doesn't take many extremists to cause mayhem. I believe in 1930s Germany there were actually very few extreme Nazis - how did Germany end up?

The way I see it is that the bulk of Muslim countries aren't nice places to stay. Can anyone name an Islamic country that is politically stable and that respects minority rights?

Why should the West risk allowing people in that could destroy our peaceful secular democracy's? The Paris/ Nice attacks are a warning of what the future of Europe will be like if we don't pull our heads out the sand.

Muslim leader speaking out against terrorist acts, not very hard to find:

Statements by Muslim leaders condemning terrorism

Islamic Statements Against Terrorism – Charles Kurzman

Paris Attacks: Muslims Speak Out Against Terrorism

You can find hundreds more if you want.

I think actions speak louder that some twitter statements.

Terrorists kill 20 Charlie Hebdo journalists. The Muslim reaction is to protest against Charlie Hebdo....

800,000 protest against Charlie Hebdo in Chechnya. Alec, why don't you find a photo showing a protest condemning the attacks?
