I’m a 21 tree surgeon based in north wales, and was doing perimeter clearance on a Scottish power substation in Kirby on the 29/5/25. My saw was stolen in the time of the team unloading kit and looking at the job no more than 70 meters away. The saw was purchased this January so looks fairy new and has the initial HGJ on both the handle and top casing. Just thought I would put it out on here if anyone comes across it. Cheers Harri Glyn

  5. I'm 72, I worked most of my life with saws, [over 55 years] the last 33 on a large wooded estate, I still fell the odd giant, and cut my own wood for my woodburner, my retirement is filled with a little fishing, and collecting, rebuilding, and maintaining old saws some of which I had most of my life, and most I still use. most of the old boys I learnt so much from have sadly passed, but I think of them when I use a particular saw that was one of their favorites. I would like before I join them a McCulloch 125 sp,, yeah I know,, but an old mans gotta have a dream,eh.
  6. Withams will bleed you dry, they haven’t even paid the MOD yet for what ex mod stuff they’re selling and still want top $ or £ in this case.

  9. Plus the further into the future they are thinking of having work done, in the meantime they then have plenty of time to call every tree firm in a 40 mile radius to offer a quote , regardless of whether they’ve given you the go ahead or not. And when you’re eventually down that neck of the woods the following year, you do a drive by and the whole property resembles the aftermath of Passchendaele .
  10. were I in your position ,, I would walk away. the more intricate and reliant on chips and ecu,s sensors and suchlike, the more problems, more coin, and more time in the repair shop losing money. theres a reason a large percentage of older equipment is still around,= less electrics.

  14. Staking too high does not allow the tree to move with the wind . Moving with the wind also promotes reaction wood making the trunk stronger I have been told .
  15. Sorry for digging this up again, about the main jet valve, is it possible to remove it without junking it? I want to inspect it for wear? It SEEMS like there is a leak somewhere in the carb as when bulb won't puel fuel, I can hear hissing from carb area. Holding intake fuel line has no effect on that.
  16. There’s me thinking only les could make that link in his head 🤷‍♂️

  18. I don't think that species can be overwatered as looking up info says they grow in water logged conditions naturally AI/google says River birch trees are particularly susceptible to developing iron chlorosis (yellowing of leaves) in alkaline soils. This is because the high pH of alkaline soil makes it difficult for the tree to absorb the essential nutrient iron. Some infos River birch might be a lost cause - West DIGITALEDITION.CHICAGOTRIBUNE.COM But apparently Wake county NC is mostly acidic.... Soil Survey of Wake County, North Carolina : United States. 19. The clue is in the name alpine so designed for stability on slopes
  20. Just throwing this in there..... what are you carrying in the trailer? I often use hitchlock, cover and chain but the goods in the trailer are not secured, the trailer can be tipped and the load rolled out or just craned off!
  21. Call Maple Trees in Nottingham, they got the gear for this!
  22. Cut some aluminium to fit, can't be that hard. Stick it on with Tiger Seal and it's going nowhere.
  23. Good Morning All.
  24. Very nice and well done, enjoy!
  25. This was the first time I used it so I'm not sure yet. I did notice that the hands up stays cinched better (is this correct English?). The weight of the steel biner can loosen the cinched rope, where the hands up doesn't. Probably because this is the small hands up for up to 12mm on a 12mm rope so it sits tight on the rope. A steel biner still is easier and quicker, but I do like the hands up

  28. Thank you all for your responses. It’s a learning process for me but some takeaways from it: 1. daltontrees – agreed, ‘wilful’ in modern English suggests a malicious act (which would be difficult to define) but it seems that in legal parlance it has a subtly different meaning; it appears to be the opposite of ‘unaware’, in that it refers to an action taken with knowledge that it contravenes some statute or recommended procedure, rather than an action taken in ignorance of the same. 2. Tree monkey 1682 – Local Authorities have considerable powers but in my area they fail miserably to use them; Not far from the Oak tree was a large mature Walnut tree. The owners applied for planning permission for an extension stating on the application that no trees were affected but hidden on one of the drawings was a statement that the tree was diseased and would be removed. Up went the extension and down came the tree. 3. MarkJ and waterbouy – thanks for the Arboricultural Association link, I hadn’t seen that before. When I get the Tree Surgeon’s report I will forward it to the landowner along with the AA link and a link to BS5837:2012 and copy the council Tree Officer. At least that way the landowner cannot claim acting out of ignorance.
