  1. Past hour
  2. Im a bit disappointed with the carrots sown a few weeks ago, none have come up so re-drilled today. When I looked at the packet to see if the seed was too old, turns out they are not due to germinate till next
  3. Sad times indeed, wrt to the dearth of wildlife everywhere. It saddens me as well that not that many people seem to care. Not sure if most people just don't know, or don't even believe that the world as we know it is collapsing around us. I'd love to have frogs but she has always wanted gold fish, so we've got them instead. It's a case of either or in a small pond. I'm just waiting for them to die off now, we started with 5 and now down to only 2 so getting there! Also, thousands of pond snails. The Mason Bees are out in force here this week. I think the warmth and nice weather have brought them out. They're always more active when it's sunny. It turns out that they're difficult subjects to photograph, it took me scores of goes just to get this unsatisfactory one. Interestingly, I also spotted some tiny parasitic wasps that prey on the bees I think. Not so good.

  7. I am a home user I guess - an occasional bigger tree or larger logs, and the 181 does me fine - still going well 10 years later - but as above and like all machines you need to keep on top of the routine stuff - cleaned (wiped down at least) every chain sharpen, decent oils (home user, for what it costs every so often, this one always gets Stihl stuff), spark plugs as and when and air filters, and it gets started at least once a month even if it has no use... I think where the ebay and similar stuff falls down is never had the routine stuff done (why would you if it is a few logs twice a year), petrol left in the tank evaporating or going stale in the petrol can and the carb left dry for a long time but it is expected to start 2nd pull. For what it is it is a good little saw. But got to appreciate what it is. Having said that, for a home user I think I would suggest a battery saw, a lot more pick up and play. Probably wouldn't recommend a cheap supermarket one though. For the OP I'd be checking the spark plug, is there a spark. If the piston is a little worn or scored it should still go but just be down on power? Are you using new fuel?
  8. Nationwide Platform or CPL Ltd are IMO, the best choices you have.
  9. At least the substitute injury is one that should heal well without the same level of intervention as the original. Well done Alex.

    ArbDogs? Pics!

Three weeks later. Pad is stuck to his foot well enough to walk on it with no strips or bandage. Still keeping him off running, charging up banks etc but broadly speaking fixed. Have replaced it with a different injury. He was obviously annoyed with the bandage, chewed it off and kept chewing for something to do. Less concerning, just a bit annoying that he looks like a crackhead.

  12. You might need a little more than that to sell yourself. For example, do you have any chainsaw tickets / qualifications? Or is it experience from around a farm or even just chopping up your dads firewood pile. Things like diggers, again any qualifications, drivers license (clean or otherwise). Carmarthenshire area... but can you travel freely in that area - car, bike, bus or whatever, or would you need picking up in the mornings. Are you happy to start at the bottom rung, dragging brash, labouring, and use the machinery as and when you get the relevant tickets to use them in a contracting profession? Essentially you are asking someone to give you a few hundred ££ a week on the basis of 26 words? Give them a hand and persuade them why. The folks on here are generally more than happy to help out, but they do need something to go on.
  13. I rate it highly. Before I converted my 2511T to Panther I manage to bend the original bar more easily than I would expect. No problems since I changed over in Sept 2023. I carry a spare bar on the van. I have found it greatly improves the saw's performance. I find it very difficult to get a good result sharpening the really small chains, so I just fit a new one and recycle the old metal.
  14. Thanks Doug, and morning all. Lovely blue sky here. Sitting outside and reading books mixed with doing VAT return today.
  15. That's quite a vague request We would need to know a bit more about your intentions to guide you to the right arb-truck
  16. Please call before making a delivery
  17. I've had a few. I seem to get 5 years out of them before a non economic repair comes along. I'm in two minds - yes I like keeping 'professional' saws going but, when new they cost five times as much and after 5 years start needing money spent on parts. Yet you can get a basic Stihl for £150.

  19. Like any piece of equipment, if maintained correctly, not abused and used for the purpose intended, then I have never had issues with the stihl home owner range........when sold to home owners and being used occasionally for that is what they are intended for. Bit of pruning and some firewood cutting once or twice a year when seasons dictate. However, when there are issues from my experience is when pro users buy them because they are 'cheap' and 'light" but expect the performance and quality of a pro spec saw...simply because it says stihl on the side of it. The worse culprits are people that travel who wont buy a proper topping saw and buy a 180 or 181 and use it one handed up a tree because they are light.
  20. Mornings gents, long lie for me today. Day off to steam clean everything and mooch about. Dry here and the shorts are on, May regret it but they will be on under the boiler suit loving the Scottish summer dream!
  21. interesting thanks, i'll have to give that a try
