I did some digging. They are Eastern White Cedar, or Eastern Thuja. At this point I'll leave them to see how they fare. I considered planting a new row in front of them but if anything is going to happen I'd like to leave them exposed to as much sunlight as possible. Just wondering if some Evergreen fertilizer might help them along the way. Thanks for the tips so far.

If you want to buy a blower look at the one that takes the Stihl 500s batteries. If you buy a battery with the machine you get a free battery. I think it's the BGA300
-
They do indeed but, it doesn't seem to fit other manufacturers bars very well. Same with the 1/4 1.1

Very true, but as the saw that is in the picture looks like a MS182 or MS212, I thought it would be a good tip as they have an inboard clutch

Whatever it is Stubby the Finns will take it seriously. One of my sons is currently doing his national service, at the minute they are on a multinational exercise with multiple NATO nations including the UK. Apaches are also over there from the UK.

Stihl do it also. Rapid Micro Special (RMS) - For 1/4" | STIHL WWW.STIHL.CO.UK Low-vibration comfort carving saw chain with excellent cutting performance. Short cutter top plate eliminates the need to...

Id also consider the makita 40v platform as batteries are free on promotion atm with each new tool and the cost of batteries is a big % of total cost So you could buy 3 tools & get 3 free 40v batteries I think.. Makita - Products WWW.MAKITAREDEMPTION.EU Agree about blowers they are very battery hungry. If you look on yotube there some reviews of the makita products If you look at the Kw rating of the electric motor in the various toppers compared to a 200t will tell you roughly how rapid with it cut in comparison. So the msa220t for example should cut about the same i reckon as a ms200t.

Always thought about one of those Silky saws or whatever they’re called. If in big wood I usually carry an alloy wedge so I can smash it into the cut to open it enough for a plastic wedge and open it more with that. Saves destroying plastic ones.

Well done.

Starmer scrambles for Balkan migrant deal after Albania snub APPLE.NEWS Bosnia sources say they would enter talks with the UK over a possible agreement Rwanda Cancelled on the first day in power, despite evidence it was an effective deterrent even before it was officially in place. Labour did what they said they would and that’s 12000 illegal unvetted £42k a year immigrants so far this year. 👍👍

I had an 880 with 30” bar. Sold it. Been happy ever since. I picked up an 881 with a pretty big bar (five foot ish) in a shop a couple of months ago. Hefted it up as if cutting on spikes. Horrible. Right in my face. I’d just done a crane job on a fat beech. 36” was fine. You just dangle round. How many larger than six foot diameter cuts do you need to make a year in the UK? I’ve actually done a seven or eight foot cut with that 36” bar. Had to cut out a block the size of a washing machine to crawl inside and sweep the middle out. Depending on your interest in mining, you could theoretically cut even bigger diameter if you really wanted to go boring. I think triple bar length is a reasonable cutoff though, considering how little it’ll be necessary here. Anyway. Would have liked a bigger bar but that was only one cut in twelve years doing big trees. tl;dr: 36” is all you need in the UK. 661 pulls that fine. 500 would probably do it acceptably. 881s are miserably cumbersome, even with short bars.

I do wonder how I’ve managed to get this far in life without the amazing sense of comprehension and understanding of all things political I keep hearing about. Could it be that honesty and hard work ( including being proud of what you do for a living rather than hiding it) are more important than that arrogant left wing “ you just don’t get it” mentality. Who said Trump was good for the world ?? I’m pretty sure he was elected on the “ America First “ promise. As for differences of opinion and insults I’ve never ever reverted to blatant lying or even going as low as repeatedly putting a forum members name in a sentence along with the word “ rapist “ like a sick bugger does on here.

They do feel like that they weigh twice that of a 90cc saw and seem to drink 5 times the amount of fuel!

Yep we are sort of there in that - it's trying to finish it off as the admin is massively tedious, we have a new website coming and.. it's hard to promote it but you'll never now change what the different manufacturers do as far as their product range is concerned.. We have the Tsumura in 3/8 lo pro where all bars should match drive link counts across all manufactuers. ie (we have 10"-18") so Echo 12", Husky 12", Stihl 12" -all carry the same chain (and each chain is even and has equal left and right cutters without a double left or a double right). So if you run different saws you carry the same chains for each length of bar.

30”, just use the 500 unless you’re doing loads and loads and loads of constant big stuff (oversize firewood or milling). 881 with 30” probably won’t be any quicker and will certainly make your life much, much worse. Don’t underestimate how shit they are to live with. I’d have one (with a 48”) for primarily milling but that’s partially because I already have 25” 500 and 36” 661 (mainly arb climbing, bit of milling). I know what you mean about the 661 seeming comparatively underwhelming but it’s good enough. Actual cutting is a fairly minor part of arb.

I’d stick a 30 inch bar on the 500 before contemplating dragging an 881 up a tree, they are a massively cumbersome lump.
-
It sounds like the 881 is the machine for you. We had an old 066 which TBH pulled a 36 inch bar good enough for us. Ive used an 084 up a tree a couple of times and it was too much for me tbh and that was only when subbing, I would have used the 066 on my jobs but im not a big guy (5foot 7) Ive never used a 661 but all the feedback I get is that they are really good, any chance that yours isnt performing that well? The 500i seems to be the saw of the moment, always positive feedback.

It's been catastrophic. Some say that no association of wordler's could hope to recover from such a devastating day, "Thick Thursday" as it shall become known to history. But, there is a ray of hope shining through the wasteland of our results in the shape of Rich and Navvy. We can hang our hopes for tomorrow on their display of wordexcellence (not to mention Steve's personal victory) and endeavour to pick ourselves up and carry on, to a better time when the casual observer will see green a plenty whilst 1's and 2's saturate our fine wordle thread. I feel sure a brighter sun will rise on our collective tomorrow. Also, Dempsey, when you called me stupid I didn't realise you were so jealous of the position. I think congratulations are in order that you've achieved it so easily. It really appears to come naturally 👍👍

it will be used for both mate. I was just wondered whether with a 30inch bar they're quite useful for logging up and occasionally in the tree. as i say im not impressed with a 661, think the 500 cuts alot better for its weight.

Hope it's nothing to serious peds best wishes Les 🙏

yes 12" bar, but it is not quick, nothing like a petrol ms200t. Fine for most work upto 8 inch cuts, although I once felled a 14 inch diameter alder with it, was all I had with me. I guess I ordered it with a 12" bar thinking it would help make more versatile, but 10 inch would have been ok too. The kombi hedge cutters are good for long reach with extensions, but I prefer the hs87t for the side of the hedge, my long reach kombi stuff mostly does horrible wide tops
