Another Vanguard Briggs and Stratton 14 hp Diagnosis wanted by a Muppet (me)

I have now identified the problem. It is the two resistors on the lead wires from the coil which have burned out. So I need Either two second hand coil and wires and just swap them over OR - subject to better knowledge on this forum - I cut the wires with the thermal insulation the coil side of the resistor Find out what the value of the resistor is and rig up two new wires and reisistors connecting with clamps (possibly supplemented by solder first??) and try it out. Thoughts? Any one out there breaking a Countax and can sell the coils or if new at a sensible price? Chris- 13 replies

Its an old picture, anyone know what these are, it's not far from where I'm at in the Staffordshire Moorlands, they are/were wild.

Second left at the bottom is an old fire axe isn’t it?

Does anyone else not at all love the new operating system on their iPhone? It seems to make it almost impossible to quote a section of text on ArbTalk amongst other gripes. Did Apple not test it on ArbTalk forums…?

That bottom LH corner one is most odd. Does it have a cutting edge even?

Maybe you can enlighten us. What did he say about the US? I did Google it but didn’t get much.

Thought I would start a thread to share what we've bought, new or second hand, business or pleasure. Recent auction lot, I 'd be surprised if anyone can name them all but I'd love to know. Yorky after cleaning, Leicestershire with a new handle.

Well that is the six million dollar question, and at the end of the day you will need to work out what prices work for you. The only tip I can really give is to remember that what you mill will be very different from what builders merchants offer. Your timber will i guess be unseasoned. If it is the right species (larch, douglas fir) it will have natural durability. And you will be able to offer a bespoke service. Eg if the customer wants beams at 135mm x 60 you can help, whereas the builders merchants will not. Also I suggest always pricing up for the full length. The customer may ask for many different lengths, but you should charge for the length your logs are. And I haven’t mentioned that of course pricing should be by volume, except possibly for very thin or narrow pieces.

Ah yes I should have mentioned: no mobile phone signal at all. At least not enough to hold a conversation anyway.

He will get very bored with mine…

Its only £35 a month atm with no upfront cost. I might buy it as Musk will hang himself after listening to us for a less than a week.

Our neighbour getting starlink next wk for internet and phoneline will see how they get on.
-
We have star link but not as a landline … to be honest I didn’t know you could do that ! But will look in to it … Our internet and landline is shocking as being copper cable and it having maybe one or two timber wagons/ harvesters / forwarders drive through it at least once a year and BT wont replace the copper cable, star link was the only option… can’t fault it for internet though.

Just purchased a 550xp cylinder which was obviously overheating due to its orangy/brown colour. Anyone used any type of cleaner successfully so it's back to silver alloy colour? Thanks

I was reading awhile ago that Samsung have developed an new EV battery that uses a lot of silver. It was saying the price of silver is going to rocket. Looks like I was late to the party

I am about to have to embark on this voip thing as my copper line is removed and I get fibre to the premises. My understanding is the existing landline telephone number gets transferred to a VOIP provider, for about a fiver a month they then direct calls to you over the internet. I think you plug your existing phone into a small box called a voice gateway (I have an old linksys spa3102 but there must be more modern ones). The voip should be catholic about how your internet is provided as long as it is fast enough. Be aware no calls will work during a power cut unless the router is plugged into your inverter UPS. You could simply have the voip provider divert the calls to your cellphone .

I'm surprised n one has commented on Mark Carney's speech yesterday, it called out US for what it has been for 80 years. I'm still not sure what sort of democratic process has for appointing a prime minister though, much as I agree with him.

No experience myself, but I did happen to see this recently. There might be some useful information in that thread. https://www.ukworkshop.co.uk/threads/starlink.154939/#post-1849984
