Buy cheap, buy twice. Spikes will last a decade easily, they are cheap. Ive been on DMM distel geckos since 2014. Velcro tops, leather bottoms. Tried velcro bottoms, crap! Straps dont need to be super tight, just snug.

Quiz answers were Honda CX500, Kawasaki H1, Suzuki GSXR btw. What were the nicknames?

I had the very same thing happen to me twice, once with a sparrowhawk, that hit my french windows and was unconscious, I checked and as far as I could tell, no bones broken, I placed it it a quiet place and kept an eye on it, within 10-15 minutes it had regained consciousness and after a short time flew off strongly. an almost identical occurrence but with a kingfisher and a different window, that to survived, it was dazed but not knocked out completely, my missus took a picture of it and did a cross stitch picture of it. but the oddest one was a robin being pursued by a sparrohawk that flew inside my open combat jacket and hid until the threat passed, the sparrowhawk veering off rapidly upon seeing me, I was driving the tractor at the time. I remember feeling it's heart beating at a rapid rate. where I was working at the time you only had to pick up a spade and the local robin would follow you to where you started digging and were tame enough to take worms and grubs from your hand.

Lovely day for it. Our station is a quiz. Riders come in from the hills or road and pull up to one of the ladies. Today’s questions were 80s Jap bikes nicknames. A field of riders mostly on BSAs, Villiers, Greeves etc weren’t all that interested. Fair comment really. Past years’ questions were highway code history, identify silhouettes of Brough Superiors etc. More the scene. Not many mechanicals this year. Usually quite a lot of wet points, difficult restarting once they’ve knocked it off to hear the quiz. Did get a foot long adjustable out as a prop but only thought of it too late. Amused some bloke who’d come up from Sheffield to follow on his GS.

I wanted to buy branded spikes but the price has doubled in the few years I've been working, I think its a rip off. I ordered these clones. Couple of reciews say they need a sharpen out of the box, replace the plastic tpu bottom straps immediately. The top foam appears comfy, the metal bits are all good. https://www.amazon.co.uk/gp/aw/d/B0DHBKQYXW

Reading this, was just about to say pay rise - not a demand - but did you get a suitable increase in wages as you have gained each ticket, and become more profitable to the company. Without knowing, you might be on a basic 'trainee' wage and you might need to be paid as a more experienced employee (OK small company probably doesn't have a formal wage structure but you know what I mean). Second thing I thought, is the boss giving you suitable pay increases only after a while after gaining each ticket, 6 months, a year, - as if there is a payback time for him paying for the training and then you get the pay rise kind of thing.

bloody terrible, lost all power to the house and the workshop, took all day to isolate the fault, mice chewed a cable and had to practically dismantle the feckin' workshop to find it. had to isolate every circuit to find the fault, lights, sockets, 32 amp for lathe and milling machine, kinda hard to work around all the saws, so all had to be removed before any progress could be made. sorted now, power back on and everything working as it should, my terrier was going mental searching for the culprit, I have placed a dozen traps for the little feckers, so hopefully tomorrow I can get the McCulloch going.

Told my mate about this thread earlier and then as chance would have it we poked our heads into a barn and found a barn owl! I woke it up and it rocketed out parting his hair when I said to look in. We'd both just been saying how you'd have to work pretty hard at shooting one but thinking about it now, night vision and thermal is so good and cheap these days that the gap is narrower.

The webbing and buckles on all of them appears to be the wide sort, I'm wondering if it will get in the way or get caught on things? Better if it were narrow like the normal leather straps? Or is the wide sort, not a problem? I saw this video ages ago but never tried it. It makes good sense, but its not going to work with thick webbing. Just been having a look at Notch and Buckingham's, instead of normal webbing adjusters (goes through and back through, locking on itself) the buckle ones seem to use single hole and velco adjustments?! Sort of defeats the point of the buckle?! Distel does use the webbing adjustment type and velcro, which I think could work, they are the only ones with branded AustriaAlpin Cobra buckles. If I dont want velcro on the lower straps, I'm thinking to make up some with AustriaAlpine Cobra 25mm buckles and webbing. First I have some cheapy amazon "tactical belt" webbing with buckles, I may try that on some spikes just to see how well it works before I decide anything. I'll have a backup rope for that test.. got a suitable tree on Tues to have a play with.

I found a dead sparrowhawk on my land which looked odd but it was soon apparent that it had hit a glass panel surrounding my neighbours decking - probably whilst chasing a small bird down. It had catapulted over the panel and landed up in my garden... There was a definite mark on the panel where it had hit it.

It's getting to the stage where a few of us are starting to struggle a bit with battery life on the ProComs now and while I know Stihl say they aren't replaceable, I'm sure there's someone out there clever enough to prove them wrong without too much effort. I've not found anything when I've searched online but figured there's got to be someone on here that's at least got as far as chopping a knackered set open by now, even if not having managed to make a new battery fit. It would be great if there was a way to bump up the battery capacity at the same time so as not to have to charge them every night (not that I ever forget to, nope, never....)

I explained badly, all NPTC tickets. For the rail ones, hedge and brush cutter, we had been using the tools for months so didnt get any training except the new giy got a brief half hour lesson by other staff. I left rail before doing any more. Cs30,31,38,39 were trained by an old guy who called himself an assesor. I wanted to skip the training to just have the assesments thorugh him, as I knew what I was doing, knew how to do the cuts, used chainbrake correctly etc.. He insisted in training and that he couldnt then assess me, so I'd have to wait, he dragged it out over several months...and then he doubled his training cost for cs38 39 and I had to pay it or find someone else which I'd already tried and given up on.. He got somone over from Ireland who apparently assesses other instructors. Well that would explain why the standards are a bit shite then... ..Those that can't, teach...

Let’s face it, no one with an FAC is going to shoot an owl. Even the most hardened under pressure gamekeeper probably wouldn’t, and certainly not in someone else’s random wood. If it was shot it would be a random cretin with an air rifle. I find that a stretch though. Because of the way owls live, the chances of a sitting shot at one are pretty rare.

Me too, but still happy in them. Read elsewhere they suit people with long legs. I'd agree with Mark, velcro upper (big area so secure, adjustable, padded) and buckle lower is best compromise.

Nah, not me, never been anywhere near Plumpton. I’m sure they will be long gone by now, just like Mr. Pardoe, sailing into the sunset and enjoying life. 👍

I have carbon Geckos which came with velcro straps top and bottom. The bottom straps were a pita, so when they wore out I replaced them with webbing and buckles and never looked back.

Given what's known about Epstein and his friends, it's not beyond the realms of possibilty that he had extremely compromising footage of very prominent figures. I think he's still alive and living on an island somewhere. His lass will be joining him soon, if she hasn't already done so. Tinfoil hat perhaps, but the whole thing is so bizarre that it really wouldn't surprise me.

Exactly this. For an 'educated' man who has served in the UK armed forces he doesn't understand any personal online security. There are many professions out there where there are hostile actors who would love to get the personal details of any employees to exploit - and ex navy can be counted in that list. Suspect that there are more reasons than "Pissing of JohnsonD" for not divulging each minute detail of a life online for many many people.

1 minute isn't long enough. Surprised there is no CCTV for the rest of the prison, for example over the entrances which might show - or not - anyone entering or leaving say 2 to 3 hours either side of when he was meant to have died. Assuming any killer would have left straight after and not hung around... but that would make a rubbish conspiracy.
