They need full sun or at least half. They'd struggle in a woodland setting due to excessive shading I think.

Emergency felling license

The Council can order works under Highways Act, it qualifies the works for exemption under the Forestry Act 1967. Joined up. -

it would be good if barbed wire grew from cuttings -
Bad schooling leading to poor aesthetics and lack of appreciation of the natural world I suppose 🙂

I was told by woodland officer last year council order over powers felling licence as long as you have paper chain. Near me there's a lot of 28 day notice being given on trees fell by highways, must have new policies.

Emergency felling license
daltontrees replied to mitchel's topic in Forestry and Woodland management
The law on this is clear once you know about it. You do not need a felling license for felling trees "in compliance with any obligation imposed by or under an Act of Parliament...". That would include road safety legislation. Get something in writing, anything, from the Council that says the trees have to go, and keep a copy. Then fell them. Do not apply for a license. Do not wait. There are addiitonal exemptions for "the prevention of danger" and for "the felling of any tree of the genus Ulmus which is affected by the disease in elms caused by the fungus Ceratocystis ulmi and commonly known as Dutch elm disease to such an extent that the greater part of the crown of the tree is dead". Again no license is required. All this assumes you are in England and Wales. Different law in Scotland. Very different in Ireland. -

The makers of this video think that the public sector is suffering because of lack of funding. So where do they imagine the highest tax regime since World War Two actually goes?
-
As has been said speak to the tree officer at the local authority; as if they are requiring you to feel the trees for public safety it may be that a felling license is not needed. Or indeed if the trees are under a certain size.
-
Will they be able to do it for less than £200 million though?

If the council have said they are unsafe, they'll be a official letter. So wouldn't it be sensible to speak directly with the tree officer as they would be the one also granting you or even their own tree team permission ?

I have 15 trees on a small woodland along side of an a busy A road and 15 trees have been condemned by the council. I have 4 months to sort them otherwise they will and bill my customer. How easy is it to get a felling license quickly the trees either have Dutch elm or ash dieback. there are others in the woodland that will need taking down at same time due to the same diesease. Obviously just that council man obviously doesnt leave his 4x4 while surveying.

Yep , spot on. Was one of those nothing ventured nothing gained situ's. The landscaper I was subbing to already had digger on site for constructing boundary wall on roadside, and he'd seen some of my other hedgecraft, to consider 'heck, this might work' so minimal loss if it didn't

I've dulled hedge trimmer blades on both, but for a woodland screen would choose hawthorn - my impression is they put on more growth in a season Scarlet Firethorn. Form: Rounded shrub. Lifespan: 25-50 years. Pyracantha can suffer from the diseases pyracantha scab and fireblight. It can also be attacked by pyracantha leaf-mining moth and woolly aphid pests. -
I have more than once asked them to produce some Special 6 smocks for us in any Hi-Viz colour, but preferably orange. They eventually came back with “ if you send us your garments we can stitch reflective strips onto them for you”, completely missing the point, even though I had told them we worked in Forestry not highways. Considering the amount of garments they supply to search and rescue teams, you would think that HI-viz would be a standard option by now.

What’s wrong with pyracantha in a setting other than urban?

That's actually a very good question! ⭐️ It would work best with the more expensive 90/120cm high Hawthorn whips, or tall Pyracantha (in an urban setting).. Blackthorn is good too, but unless you include a root barrier along-side the planted hedge-line, then you'll tend to find a huge thicket soon forms from the root suckers, that spread everywhere.. I don't think I've ever seen or heard of anyone doing this.. We'll have to call that the ADD+ planting technique then, Alex?

I must have bought one of the last pairs of fellhunters and now that I want another pair I can't find them anywhere and the arbortec website doesn't list them anymore. I like the high leg and the soles have stood up to walking on a lot of sharp rock. I can't see any similar boots apart from spending big bucks on some Pfanners. Anything I'm missing ? Any recommendations? Anywhere still got size 8/42 fellhunters on the shelf ?
