Agreed that sounds fine. Run through the other checks and let us know. Not idling or surging are classic symptoms of an air leak somewhere.

Chip is for beds, boarders and paths so no yew, black walnut etc. Otherwise I'm happy with any good quality woodchip but would favour hardwood/mixed hardwood/softwood. £40 for full load. Delivery - As per photo, our front lawn is the tip site (currently covered in black plastic). As long as the vehicle is small enough to drive onto a standard driveway you can drive in and reverse into position. Give me a call if you need anything. Cheers, Penn

Its actually not as bad as I thought, held at shoulder height and released, 6 seconds to reach over a foot off the ground and it stops there. I don't think compression is the issue.
-
I had to adjust the L screw and speed tick over on a couple of my saws when I started using alkylate fuel, never had problems with rubber parts.
-
Sound advice, thanks. With a used saw of its age it's maybe difficult to gauge what you would call acceptable compression, it doesn't drop straight to the floor for sure (I did this soon after removal from packaging) but i would say i'd prefer a little more resistance. I can add a little video later

Timber for Boat / Hull Docking Blocks?
openspaceman replied to Whoppa Choppa's topic in General chat
Yes I was thinking redwoods would be too soft and lack strength. I get the impression elm is fine if totally submerged or buried, less so if wet and dried. We looked to sell shook oak for groins. -
Green heart / purple heart . As used for pilings / groins on the beach . Hard as a hores arse though . Will blunt saw blades and chains pretty quick but will last for ever in salt water or ope air .

there could be so many things going on here that need investigating. As every poster has said above, its not about the fuel so dont change back to E10. In order I would: - you have raised the question of compression. Thats easily checked by hanging the saw from the starter rope (it should hang and only move down slowly) or looking for piston scoring. - clean saw and take out carb. Bend all the lines and look to brittleness or cracks. If you are in any doubt (given its been ran on E10 and you intend to use aspen) replace. - replace fuel filter, install a carb kit and reset autotune. - if this doesnt work, you are into the more major stuff of checking for air leaks and replacing the solenoid. autune saws are still relatively simple. The autotune can adjust for an airleak to a certain extent, thats why problems seem to suddenly appear when it reaches the limit of its adjustment.

If I were in your shoes I would try and find out more about their need. Ie size of each prop, how long they are expected to last, will they be in use in all weathers for years, or just for a season and then all dumped, etc, etc, etc. Will these go at the bottom of a dry dock and have many thousands of tons of ship on them and be expected to last for decades? Or on the other hand just be randomly used to haul small pleasure craft out at a little boat club and a couple of years life is more than enough. By the way, when they say redwood, you do appreciate they probably mean pine? Actual redwood would only be used as boat chocks if they specifically had to be really soft.

Easy to tip logs onto gravel in front of our house - please call me and I can move the car if required. 5 tons of wood for our log burner would be ideal. Thanks, Paul

Client sounds like a noob trying to save money but then having second thoughts & messing you around. Gonna be one of thoose jobs that when drive by 3 yrs later you will see they haven't done anything with what you left lying about.

Kram, if you have quoted 3 men on the hedge an you think it's doable just stick to your guns. As for the disagreement about the arisings of the tree takedown. You need to make sure you write in your quote exactly what you are planning to do with them as I have had this before. Customer then quibbles and if it was verbal then you are on very rocky ground as they can just say 'that was not my understanding'. So clearly and concisely written quote can save trouble further down the line. Obviously only relevent in those few cases where you have those customers who just don't do as they are told and just get their wallet out. If he wants you to get in and sort that brash out then some boards on the ground is your answer.

Well what a knob !! I misread/misunderstood the title, and thought this was about some obscure traditional method of making propellers (props!) out of timber. I kept thinking that's going to take some special grain choice, along the lines of spiral turkey oak or something similar. Only today realised it's about propping boats upright ..doh!

The whole situation is a bit of a headache as when i started it last night it kicked over fairly easily and ran for about a minute, I revved her and it then bogged down, cut out. When raising this issue with seller he swears blind saw was running fine when it left him, supported by a video of it running / revving- though that could have been 6 months ago of course. Now that I've put only Aspen in it from the get go, all I can do is drain and revert to E10 and see if it improves. But having to drop start with revs once its warm(which I hadn't mentioned) isn't indicating so much a fuel issue to my mind, more compresssion No more used saws I think, even 100 per cent seller feedback doesn't guarantee anything

You’re going to get better at being clear with clients. Stacking is different to piling and putting. Cutting to 50cm means just that, if it’s too big to move, too bad, they should have thought of that.
