  1. bar oil? or chain oil? id go with either whatever is recommended by the manufacturer or their own top oil. since surely they have catered their oil to match their saws? stihl chainsaw, with a stihl bar and stihl chain, id be running stihl chain oil. synth plus. or bio oil if youve got a beard and drink beer with twigs in.
  2. taking out all silly ideas of cranes and winches out of the equation, and regardless of where anyone was anchored, am i alone in thinking the way to go about it was to work from the branch tips backwards rather than taking a slice in the middle of the trunk? because im seeing that as the glaringly obvious point, why was he cutting it in the middle at all?
  3. given how fast that trunk went down i think id have been sitting in the tree the tips were caught in and nibbling bits with a pole saw till i dropped past me. looks like a shit situation to be presented with as a climber. im betting hes misjudged the situation the base was in and thought it would stay up. given a major budget and with the road closed maybe a crane taking the weight of the trunk and work from the tips inwards stripping everything back to what its hanging in. all things considered im not sure i would ever go for chop it in the middle while im sitting on it no matter where im strapped into
  4. when im away for work i get my hotel paid, plus evening meal with a couple of drinks, and petrol to get there.
  5. ive never had trouble handling my big one

    'kin Amazon .

tell them you want the new item at the original price, plus additional discount for the hassle
  8. stihl x-light i think
  9. sounds like you want a silky. or a gta if you really insist on a chainsaw.
  10. im wary of everyone jumping to conclusions here. theres very little detail given on how the saw came into contact with the finger. sounds like it is one or both at fault, but not enough detail to assume who. could be that one reached into the cutting zone, could be the saw jumped, could be the saw was swung carelessly. usual practice is stay away from the big noisy sharp cutty thing. 5m distance is standard guidelines from what i know, but i think is a little tricky in a domestic setting a physical barrier between workers seems excessive, anyone on site should know the safety principles or shouldnt be on site. sadly it does usually come down to operator behaviour at fault. but some wise-ass will always turn it onto management and it becomes their fault for not enforcing procedure.

    Crazy!!

eco-mentalist nutjob, who would almost certainly be the first to kick up a fuss and demand the council does something if a dead branch had fallen off the tree. lock her in a padded room with a mirror so she can shout at her own reflection
  14. depends on the tree and where they are some will form a natural brace some will result in a weak branch more likely to fail
  15. cue a long list of people each swearing by a different pair of trousers and marvelling at how long they lasted most are about 300 quid these days
  16. outstanding! got me a boner watching that cyclist go down im not saying the tow guy wasnt at fault, but damn thats some good watching.
  17. whats wrong with just putting a genuine stihl on it?
  18. what saw is it going on?
  19. question: how much use do people feel a rescue climber really is in the event of any major incident in the tree? major cut to neck/ face/ underarm, youve got about 2 minutes, can your climber get to you that fast? anything smaller you can maybe bring yourself down or slice your main line free and be lowered off like a log? any thoughts?
  20. cyclists deserve it, let them through and aim for them
  21. random thoughts? boobs.
  22. too much range for them to make it profitable if theyre small best sticking to the smaller accessory stuff like fliplines, carabiners, maybe a rope or two, selection of slings, chainsaw straps, a few of the more popular silky blades? could take a chance on whatever happens to be the fashionable harness or two.
