  1. Where abouts in the country are you? Someone might know a dealer who has a hire/demo machine you can try before you buy
  2. Looked at that one, just too big for our room nice stove though
  3. I reckon that was the best £100 I ever spent, about 10 years of really abusing it before it finally gave up... began to think it was completely impossible to destroy
  4. My brothers got one. Feels plasticy compared to my bosch one but is quite powerful and good value for the money
  5. We looked at burley at west dean. Nice stoves but no decent traditional design offering between 4kw and 11kw (no 8kw and the 5kw looks like a wine fridge we thought). Probably more efficient than our Charnwood and look well built.
  6. Thanks, yea we struggled to find any dealers who stocked anything bigger than C5, had to just order going off C5. They do seem really well built, should last a lifetime. I'll give you a shout in 40 years for a rebuild!😅 We liked the combination of traditional with a slight modern twist, single door, single air control etc. Once its hot we push air control in till it clicks (which isn't full way in) and room sits at about 20°c probably all day. Too many people buy a stove thats too big, have the heating on as well and wonder why it soots up when they have it running on minimum! Sorry I didn't realise you were a current Charnwood dealer would have given you a shout. Probably too far away anyway.
  7. If its a council job won't also be a friday afternoon job, they don't work then😅
  8. Nice one Ruben, you even got your moment of fame on LinkedIn! You know where to come for any bits for it anyway😁
  9. After doing stacks of research narrowed it down to Charnwood, Burley or Dean Forge. Went for a Charnwood C7 which was fitted a week or so ago. Had to take out wood mantle and no proper hearth as yet, so bit of work to do. So far the C7 seems a lovely stove, really well built, lights easily etc. Appreciate everyones comments which pointed me in the right direction, @Alycidon particularly.
  10. What amazes me though is despite all this you go to one of these greenwaste tip sites where people pay per m³ to tip greenwaste and there's a mountain of wood... so plenty of tree surgeons are obviously happy to pay to tip it. Convenience I guess
  11. Whoever thought burning wood on that scale was an efficient way to create power? We'll never run out of British coal what's wrong with burning that?
  12. Jim is a genuine bloke and great company, not tried the chippers they look pretty solid and well built though, and definitely not Chinese. Jim you may remember I was on your stand last year giving my Dad a hand, hope you're well?

    Scam?

Definitely a scam. They say 'we may owe you money' as presumably success rates of people clicking are higher. Don't think any legit organisation will text asking for bank details.
  14. Looking for one or two loads of processor grade hardwood near Hereford. If anyone has any or can put me in touch with someone it'd be appreciated.
  15. Nice tree and good job👍
  16. Thanks appreciate the reply v helpful
  17. After reading this comment I was at Loxwood burners yesterday who used to do clearview but stopped. The owner said non of their (clearview) stoves meet current regs for efficiency so can't be signed off, as haven't really developed them much in the last few years. They have enough business trickling in from their reputation to keep the (old) owner busy till he retires in the near future. Suppose he hasn't got the drive or passion to invest in developing the business as he's had his day. Loxwood said they're still good stoves but they don't want to be fitting them. So kinda confirms exactly what Alycidon said.
  18. How would you rate charnwood against Esse? For build quality etc? To be more specific, the Charnwood C5 against the Esse 500? Any thoughts?
  19. Found this v helpful thanks, didn't realise this about Chesney. After looking at Charnwood they look a good stove probably go for one of them I expect. Any thoughts on Dean Forge and Esse?
  20. If you're staying in pretty much the same place (eg at vice sharpening chain), the infra red heaters are really good, heat you not the air.
  21. One very grumpy customer once when we gave the fine china back... 'where's the silver teaspoon?' Still to this day don't think it came with one, but leant after that always give back any extra cutlery etc when you get given drinks. Saves a 20min search down the side of the transit seats Colleague even offered up the cheap stainless teaspoon out his lunchbox but that wasnt doing it😔

    Stihl masonry saw

Really appreciate the replies I'll send this info back and see if its a simple fix he can do himself
  23. Not my saw but been asked if I'd know why the chain keeps coming loose and even coming off. I haven't looked at it but apparently local dealer has and say nothing wrong with it... Anyone had any experience with these or any ideas what I should suggest he looks for?
  24. We went past a lone female cop down a dark country lane, 3 of us in a transit tipper, when we got to the yard she followed us right in to the bottom of the pitch black yard about 11pm at night. Spent 20mins checking our details, phoning yard owner etc. All I thought was fair play to her, would have been easier for her to just carry on. We could have got narky with her for wasting out time, but 3 chaps heading to a yard in a transit at 11 at night... not suspicious at all!🙈😅 That's what we pay them to do, check out anything dodgy. Just move on, and hope that if the van gets nicked they stop it again! Which has reminded me of a call my dad got at 3am from the police once... 'we've got your van mate' no you haven't he said, its on my drive. 'Go and look out the window then'. Sure enough it'd gone, they'd stopped it as it was driving suspiciously and found some paperwork of his in there🤣
  25. So hard as it is perhaps this is what is needed to lower prices
