  1. What's 4" pipe for? Keeping it moist? My pile is going ok but not much heat, and dries out. Do I give it a good soaking then cover with black plastic?
  2. Maybe just me, I'm a Stihl fan for bigger professional chainsaws, but I've found their lower end domestic stuff which I just use around my own property quite unreliable. Would go battery in future if not using much. I'd personally look at milwaukee battery as think they have got the best batteries, but haven't tried husqvarna battery stuff so can't comment.
  3. I used to get a pile of rings and a tractor with vertical splitter, with the promise of £8 for every bulk bag of split firewood I produced. Remember the owner being a bit surprised that the 15yo did 10 bags on his first day. Boy did I used to sleep well😄 Nothing like piece work at that age, harder you worked bigger the pay packet.
  4. HTS Plant Sales in Hereford have one for hire, its pretty new.
  5. Hadn't thought that through had I, I've got stihl kombi attachments... I like how you're thinking! Clould be an expensive experiment tho.
  6. Nice box but is that a MF135 behind? Nice tractors
  7. Good feedback doobin, they're a great brand and I agree, top of their game. They've put a lot into developing a decent battery which I think always lets cordless stuff down before the motor. I see a lot of milwaukee stuff in plant workshops it seems the most common chosen by plant fitters. It'll take a bit for me to change over on bigger stuff, but for small pruning jobs etc I'd go down this route when I'm next buying. Only have the drills, impact drivers etc at the moment which are bang on. Do they do a kombi setup? strimmer(i mean trimmer), hedgecutter etc?
  8. If its pumping grease but just not connecting get a new hose and coupler, the couplers are a wearing part and dirt cheap. The reiner guns are good and work by vacuum so suck the grease from the tube not push it out, a lot less messy. £30 should just about get you a non branded one (reiner/fuchs genuine at least twice that). Other than that do a bit of googling and bit of trial and error

    Hayter rattle

Hello all I've got a Hayter Harrier 48pro (2021 model i believe), its developed a really annoying rattle which I think is only really when blades are engaged (has bbc clutch so deadmans handle disengages blades without cutting engine). Seems to cut and drive fine. Before I start stripping it apart can anyone tell me what to look out for? Is there any common problems with these? May save some time if I can go straight to the issue! Many thanks
  11. Whatever. But surely this is why you pay a solicitor to do searches and manage legal side of purchase? Presume they pulled up that house had subsidence issues in past, my experience of buying various properties is they'll advise where you stand and next steps (surprising amount is included in initial fee) Expensive? Yea but not as expensive as doing a £3 search to try and (failing) to find solutions to problems that could potentially cost £1000's. Up to the op but that'd be first thing I'd do, solicitor experienced in conveyancing should be able to resolve this. If they want to save a few quid and have the satisfaction of knowing after hours of research they'd sorted it, then crack on.
  12. This is what you pay good solicitors for when you're purchasing a house, get them to find owner and advise on your legal position.
  13. Blown fuse it was. Thank you.
  14. Yep that👆 its a network so probably company up there do the collections then overnight they do a great big swap half way
  15. There's a few pallet networks out there, palletways etc all around that benchmark depending on weight etc. But if it'll go on a pallet you should definitely get it down here for well under £100. I used to use bleach of lavant they bought loads of individual pallets from Warwickshire to west sussex for me for under £80
  16. Phone bleach of lavant they've always got trucks up and down the country from west sussex.
  17. Oh so that's been the problem all this time then... wondered why grass was so long!
  18. I did this today!!🙈 dropped brand new battery in battery box, feeling pretty smug as probably hardly a mm to spare, fitted like a glove. Connected it up etc, wondered why it sparked a bit. Wondered why lights wouldn't work. Never even occured to me to check correct way round, lug/bolt thru type terminals. What a dope! Haven't tried starting it, could this have caused any damage to battery or electrical system? 23hp petrol engine.

    Deposits

When visiting Ireland recently seems the norm to go and hand your card in, come out fill up, go back in to authorise payment? Regarding deposits, whatever works for you. I tell customers who are trying to push down price or negotiate on payment terms 'I've got to make money to survive, won't do either of us any favours if I go bust'. If you're genuinly cash strapped might be an idea to? If you're not, surely not a bad thingnif customer will? If they don't want to and you really want the job say payment is on completion?
  20. I'm a stihl fan and love the 260 & 361 but seriously should be a law against the 180 and 181, I got a 181 as a cheap lightweight saw for pruning once. Hardly used it the amount of time spent with it on the workbench just isn't worth it, they'll never be a good saw however much you chuck at them. So I'll add to your comment 'dont spend time either'
  21. I use tapo, quite cheap. Range of different cameras as well as smart plugs (can turn lamp etc off from anywhere with same app) No subscription if you put card in rather than use their cloud storage. Start about £20 for indoor camera £40 for outdoor camera, bit more for pan/tilt and battery cameras. Decide what you want and find a system that does it, if you're gonna add more caneras etc down the line don't want to be using multiple systems. Surprisingly easy for a tech idiot like me to set up.
  22. It started as £40 and I said I don't pay for softwood arbwaste as not worth the time to process... so he dropped to £20 am I dumb to turn it away. I can do a bit of processing here and there on a sunday morning, not during work time
  23. Not much to lose is there
  24. What's it like to burn? I'm in the 'if its dry enough it'll burn' camp so not snobby about softwood but been offered some at £20/load (typical arb transit). Its arbwaste not cordwood. Thoughts? Would you?
  25. Make sure you submit a figure that you wont have regrets with afterwards, whatever way it goes. Work out highest you'd be comfortable paying to still make money. If you win you don't think 'oh crap I overpaid as I was desparate not to lose it' as you submitted a price you were happy paying. If you lose it you think 'oh well I went as high as I could, any higher wouldn't have been profitable for me' Don't worry too much what the market rate is, work out what its worth to you in your business. Probably no one else can tell you that. Hope this helps.
