  1. I'd think fell and replace is probably best. If you are particularly attached to them you could support the trunk with something to stabilise, and pruning would probably help with that. For me they'd need to have great sentimental value to bother with that.
  2. I had an easier load than that the other morning. At least the appropriate lorry came to us!
  3. And I thought she'd been painfully slow getting the first cup!

  5. The ground people will dread it too, picking up armfuls of little bits while you dream of an actual branch to drag isn't the most fun. Morning all. Sun streaming through the window again but it's cold with the wind. We went up on the moor for a walk last night (without a dog 😞, but plenty good memories to talk about) and a gritter was out doing the rounds. I get the feeling that like previous years we might be getting another long, dry spring, into a wetter and windy summer that morphs into a wet, windy autumn... Have a good one folks.
  6. All the same Pete, it's nice talking to you!
  7. You're just embarrassed by your t-shirt tan!

  12. Thought I'd mix it up a bit. Didn't help much.

  15. Morning all. Groggy, slow and discombobulated. All very familiar with the clock change. Physio this morning, riverbank this afternoon. Have agreed to do more stuff at the proper job which means being there on a Monday, so this is my last day at the riverbank! Over a decade I've been proudly looking after that. I'll miss it, my little bit of tranquility, but the future is TD. Have a good one folks.
  16. I guessed under then.
  17. On the subject of competitions, whatever happened to your 'guess the volume of chip from this tree' question?
  18. Conversely, there are plenty of "I've been doing this X years" types that aren't half as good as they've convinced themselves. Recently spoke to a budding young climber who'd got the chance to work for a guy who'd been doing trees his whole life, old hand that had seen it all. He told him he wouldn't need tickets as he'd teach him everything he needed to know. The lad was quite confident he was a decent climber, but was surprised to hear that people tend to use a mainline and lanyard when climbing, his boss had him do every tree with harness, strop and spikes. Just the one strop. I agree the idea that a ticket "qualifies" someone to do a job is a stretch, but there needs to be an entry level of some kind other than having some old kit given to you and hearing rumours about how to use it.
  19. I can help there Steve, as it's become apparent that if you put the yellow ones in the correct place on the next guess they go green. Also, if it is green already not changing it to yellow is quite helpful too. As an aside, have you tried clearing your cookies? Been hearing that advice a lot lately...
  20. The Minister for Detrimental Sleep Patterns?
  21. Good day to you Ted. All I'm saying is the Borders hasn't changed longitude once in my lifetime, but they've changed the time 100 times!
  22. I'm sure you and I remember the good old days Stubby, before they had these new fangled ideas of clocks and time. A simpler time when we woke and slept according to the great gold plate in the sky and the rhythm of mother nature. Then they invented the horseless carriage and it all went to buggery, "we have to have a clock rule our lives now so people don't miss the departure time", I said at the time no good would come of it!
  23. So it turns out using the yellows in a different position on the next line can really help, who'd have thought! Wordle 1,380 4/6 ⬜🟨⬜⬜🟨 ⬜⬜🟩🟩⬜ 🟩🟩🟩🟩⬜ 🟩🟩🟩🟩🟩
  24. Morning all. Feels like this is 6am so I guess the rumours are true, our great leaders have changed time again. I'm sure I've had many whinges on the subject previously so I'll keep it short, but it takes a particular kind of pompous stupidity for a government to think they should control time. It doesn't suit me, I've never met anyone that likes it, most find it bloody difficult, and I can't fathom why it makes any positive difference to any part of society? Kids going to school are in vehicles with headlights, school facilities are lit up like Blackpool, and the tractors I use have work lights with the power of a small sun so are farmers really that desperate for time to change twice a year? I'll leave it at that, apologies if you heard all this from me 6 months ago, off to prepare myself for several weeks of being out of sorts. Have a good one folks!
  25. And he didn't even wear a suit. Dossing around like he's in some jacamo advert, why did he think anyone would take him seriously, he needed to show some respect like leaders that visit the Whitehouse are expected to.
