  1. You're inventing my thoughts and beliefs to suit your argument. What I do remember is the first hand accounts of people that were given no choice but to be subjected to hell. I'm not distinguishing between races or nationalities or religious beliefs.
  2. The critical thing I think being missed is that the people of Dresden are comparable to the people in the camps and all the other victims of politically driven wars. They were not the 'third reich', they were victims. They didn't want their historic city, filled with beautiful architecture, or their homes, their community, levelled to a pile of rubble with the bodies of their friends and family obliterated along with it any more than they wanted the people of Liverpool or Coventry to suffer that fate. They wanted to work, go to the museum, take sunny peaceful walks in tree lined parks with dappled sun while their children played, much like the people of our cities
  3. Having read quite a bit about this subject, the Dresden experience particularly, just horrific. Yes the 'fliers' went through a lot and I don't know if I could possibly do what they did, utmost respect, but what they inflicted was horrific. There's always big talk about the blitz and what 'we' suffered, but not remotely comparable.
  4. Still a favourite of mine just now is this offering from my workmate's daughter starting a budding career as a singer songwriter. And her latest one.
  5. I remember watching an interview with a former SAS trooper talking about his career, Lofty Wiseman. He talked about being in, I think Oman, helping the regime fight insurgents. They had to use donkeys to take kit up a mountain for an OP, he said it was a nightmare, the things were so stubborn they'd just do what they wanted and the handlers (locals) thought it hilarious. At one point when the lead donkey stopped and lay down for the umpteenth time he lost his temper, approached it and gave it the hardest right hook he could muster. The donkey didn't flinch, completely aloof, but the handlers got the message and suddenly became serious about motivating the donkeys better. Progress was then made but he'd rather have used something with an engine.

  9. Sounds like a good trip. Was meant to be away up north last week for water rescue course but it was postponed, a MRT couldn't make it so not enough numbers. Looking forward to it when it happens. Enjoy your week off.

  11. Morning all. Been another good week doing storm work but nice to see the weekend. I've been keeping this under my hat, but I was approached some time ago by a publisher to feature in a kid's book. A Scots version, a new twist on an old favourite, and we've just completed the first page. So for arbtalkers only, a sneak preview of the eagerly awaited upcoming release of... Where's Dougie? Have a good one folks.

  13. The discussion has already taken longer than the task might have, the animals will have died waiting. Edit. Get someone in to deal with it for you. A lot of people would consider it a nice quiet day feeding a fire.
  14. She never used to fart, always complained about others doing it, then I explained that when you don't fart when you feel the need your body reabsorbs the waste gasses into the bloodstream, they are expelled through the lungs and you breath it out. Dog breath. Now the wind blows free with her too!

  17. I'm not generally a religious chap, but when you're down there at the lowest ebb, feeling like it's just too much to struggle on, wondering how you'll ever take another step forward, it's some feeling when you look up and see the hand of god literally on your shoulder giving you the sense you're not alone and things just got really easy... Ok, it's the hand of Tom, but beggars can't be choosers! Anyway, I was so grateful for the timely intervention from a higher power than I, I went to my place of worship at lunchtime and paid tribute. Praise be. VID-20250212-WA0008.mp4

  21. I'd been up for hours waiting to pounce!
